It is true, the postal service is in bad shape. We have had mail delivery as late as 7 pm. It takes as long as 3 weeks to get our church bulletin, sometimes 2-3 coming at the same time. A couple years ago, I asked for a hold on my mail and when I got home, there sat a entire weeks worth of mail in my mailbox. When, I tried to find out why the mail had not been held, all I got was "we will look into it" and I guess, they are still looking as I have yet to receive an answer. Maybe, that is why the late deliveries are happening, they are using the daylight hours to look into why my mail was not put on hold. Is anyone else out there old enough to remember when one could count on the mail delivery service?

Prouse is a big crybaby, bet he was never that bold when he was employed before he retired. Most people retire and then get as far away from their old job as possible what are his issues? He will probably stroke out or have a heart attack from his union position. Hey buddy give it up and buy a fishing pole.

As far as the video with postal spokesperson Barbra Wood, the reason volume is decreasing is because your service is outdated, expensive, enormously inefficient. If USPS was a private corporation it would go bankrupt so fast. But since it’s propped up with taxpayer money it will go on.

Every experience at the post office is usually agonizing and makes me want to vomit.

I called the post office when I did not receive something that I was waiting for. My answer was that they were adjusting routes and it is growing pains. I have since been getting my mail, late but getting it.

Don't know what is actually going on but my route is a training route. Either they don't have people training or the people that are stuck with it are having trouble with their 2nd route of the day.

We are spoiled aren't we? Remember when it was just a pony express? The union did not help then either LOL

This explains why we keep getting our mail so late. It didn't say why they were cutting back, did it. I'll have read it again.

Pobabe is correct USPS is not subsides with taxpayer monies, but it is run by government bureaucrats.

Just as the auto manufacturing industries the government and unions have a strangle hold on the profitability of the USPS. USPS is in business because it has no competition. That is by design of our government.

Within the next decade USPS will have less business due to the internet and the capabilities of instant communications. As the next generation of potential USPS users evolve they will view this service, like my generation views the pony express and the telegraph. They served a purpose during their time, but they eventually died a slow death. The next generation will deliver the coup de grace to this in inefficient and slow form of communication.

It is already morphing itself as we move into a less paper environment. Stay tuned and you may see it happen. It will be painful for my generation, because change usually is.

When I get a literate delivery person, I'll get back to you. As-is, I have a pile of mail I have to deliver to numerous neighbors nearly every single day.

this is more than likely another way for them to ask for a higher price stamp agian .it seems a if each year they find some problems to make this wish come true .i have a mail carrier that lives on my street and his mail truck is parked in front of his house from about 11:00am til 2:45 or 3:00 3 or 4 days a week he is not our mail person but he might be yours and this is one reason some of the mail is not in your boxes before 7:00pm that is why this is one reason i try do do as much of my stuff on the computer such as pay bills and so forth so i try not to use them but there are some things they have us over the barrel on. and we have to use them.the lines at their post offices are now worst than the DMV and those are still bad but are getting better unlike the P.O..

A sidebar to my previous comment. Current law allows companies such as UPS, FEDEX and others to transport and deliver parcels, but not mail. This service will still be in demand.

The USPS is management heavy. There are too many levels of managers who "manage" carriers/clerk but who cannot do their jobs. In any other business if your subordinate couldn't finish their task, the manager would do it but not the post office. And before you complain how expensive it is; name 3 countries with lower rates/better delivery. Most carriers are paid by the route and mail volume which is great BUT USPS managers schedule these counts during low volume weeks and then use this as a baseline all with the tactic approval of the unions.

There is a law that says an hourly employee must be paid for all hours worked. Maybe she should check into that...it's probably not even legal for her to "volunteer" those extra hours.

Cactus Jim,

Your wife has to be a rural carrier. I have been a rural carrier for 37 years 7 months. I have never seen the Postal Service this bad. I am blessed with the highest volume route in a facility of over 150 carriers. It is a tough struggle, timewise, with the phenomenal amount of catalogues I get. As you know, we are salaried and are paid by the volume of mail we sort and deliver. Our first class mail volume is down, but the rest of the mail is way up.

I can attest to the fact that breaks are hard to come by, for people like your wife.

The Postal Service is like a tour bus. A tour bus has a slab of concrete running along the undercarriage, to keep it balanced and upright, because it is top heavy. The Postal Service is also top heavy, but the difference is that the USPS is constantly chipping away at the slab of concrete, the carriers, clerks and mail handlers, while expanding the management with all sorts of "specialists." My favorite is the Diversity Specialist. Anyway, if they keep chipping away the people who actually touch the mail, this Post Office tour bus will eventually tip over. It is rocking right now. It won't be long.

Princess,

RURAL CARRIERS are SALARIED employees. They work on an evaluated pay system where they get paid based on a mail count conducted in February. February is one of the lowest volume months, so you know what happens there. It is what it is, and we have to live with the scam.

I believe that the general public is conscious of the fact that are postal rates are indeed reasonable, but they are also aware of the poor service. When your performance as a mail carrier is determined by your production, the quality of that service will be diminished by that mail carriers ability to meet expectations.

As an example, I have a mail carrier that subs occasionally for the regular carrier. These carriers drive from mail box to mail box. Since the carrier has no regularity as to when he delivers occasionally there will be a vehicle parked in front of the mail box. The sub will write me a form notice indicating that I need to keep the mail box accessible to all sides by 10 feet. He will get out of the vehicle and put the notice in the box and not leave the mail. I believe this is a form of his/her in ability to comprehend what the word delivery means.

The average carrier has no control as to how the system is managed, but they can control how they do their work within the system.
