Our great white father, Billy "the kid" Richardson started out by saying he opposed any tax during the last special session, but today, he has turned the tables and expect more to be taken from your spending power. Apparently there are "many" lawmakers taking his side and adding "more" taxes to the State coffers....

Agreed Skins. At least he is consistent in all his inconsistencies. He has always lied from the DP to running for president to taxes. You never know what he'll do next.

NM wants increased taxes so they may continue current spending trends as well as exempt employees, and so that they'll have a lot for PORK next year.

The Legislature and the Governor have cut all the BIG programs and the important/basic programs, but nobody has yet to address the PORK issues and other wasteful spending habits. As long as they ignore the PORK and address the basic issues, they assume people are dumb enough not to notice.

This is not balancing the budget. It is balancing it on our backs. Given they can keep raising taxes and bond issues, we will be giving them all the monies they need to balance any budget they want. They have bought us lock stock and barrel. The entitlement generation. Whoever robs Peter to pay Paul will always have the support of Paul. Not too transparent. Thanks Topix.

As Gomer Pyle would say, SUPRISE, SUPRISE, SUPRISE, that ain't my finger either. If you get my meaning.

A little side note you let ya'll know, the "sin" tax, taxes on alcohol and tobacco products, already went up this past Monday. I haven't been able to find out when this new tax was approved but the only thing that makes sense to me is it was approved during this last "special session" to balance the budget by screwing anyone that wants a cold beer, cigarette or cigar.

It looks to me like the average tax went up $.12 cents per pack of cigs and $.30 cents per six-pak of beer based on how much we raised our prices statewide in the chain I work for. And after the January regular legislative session I look for taxes on other things to increase as well.

Thank you Slick Willie II and all you dipwads that were elected to look after our interests in New Mexico. Once again, you have proved what a failure you are.

I did NOT vote for anyone in state office right now, I voted against every incumbent in my voting district. And I will continue to do so until the blood suckers from my neck of the woods are gone. Or me, whichever comes first.

Jobless rate keeps soaring- President Obama explanation? "We created, or saved, a million stimulus jobs." Sure ya did Biden. Check out the national debt clock for any progress. It isn't there. Tax revenues up? No, that's what keeps the fed alive. So what has to happen next? We're seeing it. Health care reform is now a disguised tax on all Americans. Cap and Tax will be the largest tax increase ever passed on us if we let the Senate do that hat trick.

Keep calling, writing, faxing and e-mailing these idiots. Enough is enough. The recession is hardly over. Cooked books are the trick of the day anymore.

Watch for a new tax on soft drinks anytime now too. This has already been heavily talked about and probably approved. Soft drinks are consumed by many and hence a potential revenue source they claim. What will they call it since it is clearly not a 'sin' tax?

Add to it a probable st income tax increase and of course the inevitable property tax increases along with other probables...

BOHICA, they survive on the fruits of our labor and we get crumbs and more taxes, not responsible spending as we'd expect.

I'm right there with you. When I say "we" I'm talking about the voting majority. I didnt vote for anyone that is currently in this state gov't either, of course unlike the majority, i did my homework before voting and therfore didnt give any of these hacks my vote.

I also dont vote with the mentality of the "lesser of two evils" concept. If the candidate or incumbate has not earned my vote neither of them get it. This is the reason we continue to get these corrupt self serving retreads making decisions in our govt.

When was the last time the Dem or Rep parties presented us with individuals that were actually out to make our country better than how they found it? What both parties give us is the highest bidder that is out for themselves and continues the status quo of crapping on the middle class and making fake promises to the so called poor. So until WE change and start paying attention before hand of who we give our votes to, we will continue and will always get more of the same.

It would seem that those who vote Dem in NM are not concerned about their taxes increasing since the most likely pay none in the first place. More than likely they are the recipients of the benefits of said increases.

Or state employees, which we have far too many of. How do you think all the dipwads stay in office in this state. All them "govment" employees vote and not enough people that have to earn a living and pay the taxes to support them do. That is a huge part of the problem.

You are wrong in not voting for the "lesser of two evils" for one reason. If you do not vote for someone, anyone, anyone that is not an incumbent, we will never be able to get the blood suckers out of office. Look at it this way: Do you want someone in office that is going to screw you slow and easy or do you want what we have now? Someone that is slamming it home with a sandpaper prophylactic? The choice is yours, even when it may not be the best choice.

Im not a conformist, therefore I refuse to vote for anyone that doesnt earn my vote, and most incumbents usually never get my vote because they prove they were hot air and full of BS through out their term.

The state wouldn't have to do anything if they would eliminate "tax lightning" and tax all properties at current market prices. Plus as was already said, our state has too many state govt workers. This is born out by the fact that NM has a much higher ratio of state govt workers than most other states on a per capita basis. The ABQ Journal reported on this a while back but I don't recall the numbers.

We have a disproportionate number of governmental workers overall because we don't have that many jobs in NM. NM consumes, it does not produce (except babies). And it seems St Gvmt likes it that way because they discourage new businesses from locating here with crippling taxes & P2P. The ones they do get either pay just over min wage or are the wrong types of businesses that forge sound careers. Example: call centers, Tesla motors, movie industry, space port... Is it any wonder why the best and brightest leave, and the rest stay behind? Entitlement is alive and well here. Social programs are a must and anchor babies abound.

We get something like $3 back from the feds for every $1 we pay to them. In essence, we are a large drain on the Nat'l level because of that.

Wouldn't it be great to see NM drop the state income tax and increase the sales tax so EVERYONE who buys something in NM would pay?

Wouldn't it be great to see FAIR property taxes for a change?

Wouldn't it be great to see the state encourage people to get jobs and encourage businesses to move here instead of increasing social programs?

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Scorpio

Self-worship is easy and obvious, today. The real prize is when you turn from the mirror to see that others think just as highly of you. Take in all this love and amazement, and store some away for lean times in the future. Someone may give you an unexpected compliment later in the day, but don't let them know that it caught you off guard. After all, you still have your reputation as an egomaniac to uphold!
