Well, I can't think of one. But I am really looking forward to see at least one.

By working I mean for those it was originally intended to serve, not those who are taking advantage of the liberal(no partisan) policies and drawing from it for various reasons.

Ok, it worked for awhile, big government got their greedy hands in there, now it's not working like it should, also, when they devised Social Security, they did not factor in the expontential growth of the population.

Any other programs?

None I can think of, what few ~may~ work have a shorter life span than SS has now. The Government gives under the guise of humanity and such but in the end all they do is stick it to those with legitimate income in the form of higher taxes and promote more laziness and criminal activity(for want of a better term) on the part of many, not all by any means but many.

The best example I can think of are immunization programs. These immunizations for both children and adults not only qualify as a liberal program because they are government freebies, but they are in fact...the dreaded and evil...socialized medicine.

And I'm not in the mood to argue with government conspiracy theorists about immunizations other than to say that the benefits in disease reduction greatly outweigh the risks. If you don't want your kids to be vaccinated? There is an exemption that you can sign. Don't want a free adult flu shot? Don't get one.
not really

if SS served only those that actually paid into it then maybe it can be counted, but with SSI as many people that never paid in getting money out has diluted the actual contributions into obscurity.

Good point, there are some programs that make sense, and the immunization aspect is one of them when offered as a choice.

That's part of the non working aspect I was alluding to, the deviation from its original intent. Conceptually it was a pretty sound program until in part it was raided by the feds for who knows what programs.

Defending a woman's right to choose makes sense to me.

Taxing so you can have police and fire protection makes sense to me.

The Republican Party has spent the better part of the last thirty years branding the term "liberal" as weak, anti-American and elitist. Liberal has been branded the same as a "communist" or "socialism."

And it has worked. It has worked so well that even many liberals today are running away from the term and themselves. They are trying to call themselves "progressives" or portray themselves as moderates. In doing so, they are leaving the very values that used to be at the core of the Democratic party and is perhaps the greatest reason that the Democratic Congress today is full of hapless leaders with no guts. It is hard to fight for something you are trying to run away from.

no sense. The whole basis for America is liberal ideas. It is a process, sometimes we get it right despite regressives forces.

Well how about that, we have both taken the first step towards solving all the world's problems by helping to get liberals and conservatives to find middle ground. Hooray!!!

Middle ground and compromise are sorely needed as it's obvious today's political climate doesn't accomplish anything. Getting politicians to embrace that concept seems only likely to occur at the voting booth.

Good thought CD; however, “If voting changed anything, they’d make it illegal.”

Lol, you're probably right, BUT, if just one time people get off their collective backsides and vote, we could shake the shit out of the political tree. Besides, voting is the only aspect left to us when all is said and done. We can posture and pontificate all we want but in the end its all about the results from the voting booth.

You can't think of one? How about the internet (public universities and the defense department). Social Security (never missed a payment). Food stamps (keeps a lot of family farmers in business). Assistance for winter heating oil (keeps a lot of people from freezing to deatr). Highways (here in New Mexico we have no toll roads...isn't that awesome?). The Army (food and board and an education, and all you have to do is show up on time and get shot at so rich people can cash their oil and defense stock dividend checks). The Department of Agriculture (seen any boll weevils lately?).

Childhood Immunization comes to mind. I haven't seen a child with leg braces since i was a little tiny kid.

As you can see, I'm just getting started and the list is already rather long and tedious, but you have to be sighted to read it. As long as you're blinded by conservative bullshit, I don't think there's much chance of you seeing it.

But maybe the government will find a cure for that someday, and you'll be saved! The funny thing is, you won't be able to give them credit for it. You have no idea how lucky you are and how little you've actually had to do to be where you are. Be thankful you don't have to know any better and how good you are at discounting what I've just said.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Taurus

Try hard not to let money or possessions come between you and a friend today, unless it's over something that has got to be sorted out before it goes any further. For instance, if someone owes you money and has consistently failed to pay it back, this is a good day for mentioning it to them and finding out what's going on. If necessary, you may have to be quite vehement.
