Seems like misdirected anger to me. And the funding scheme for their pension that Congress mandated is unique and is designed to make them look bad. But my point was (and is) that privatization is no panacea. No private company can duplicate the services, facilities, price point or reach of the postal service. It is not a business - just like most government functions. The country has to determine the future and value of continuing universal service first, and what form it would take. Everyone still benefits from the postal service and some are way more dependent on it than others. If privatization means 6 bucks to deliver a card or closing rural post offices or forcing people to pay their bills online and risking hacking or mail service becomes just another part of life that we all need but now some corporation gets to skim a profit out of - we have to think about that first.

Willothewisp wrote: <quoted text> Absolutely correct. Take a look at the public school system to see how well it works. Most of the public school systems in the USA do a fine job with the money they're given. We live in Albuquerque, where tax cuts for the wealthy starve the schools of resources, and where being a teacher means turning on the TV every night to see just how screwed up APS is. Give them the same revenue per student as, say, Manzano Day School (What $10,000 to $15,000 a year?) and I guarantee you'll see a big improvement. Regardless, I had three sons attend APS schools, and they had no problem getting what they needed. Ione was a genius, one was average, and the third needed extra attention. But the only problem we ever had was the day they tried to deny my middle son an education because he wore the wrong color pants. Meanwhile, private schools have many of the same kinds of troubles as public ones do - and some they don't - but you don't hear about them because...... they're private.

Proper English would be: "it must have gone over yours." Are you an illegal alien? If I were you I wouldn't be so critical of other considering your own faults.

Once again, an excellent point. Give them the same amount of money as parents pay for private schools. Why not home schooled? They can do it for under $1000 a year and they do fine and compete nationally. Throw more money at it and you will see an improvement. Where have we heard that before. Money is the answer. Throw money into something that can't work and it will work? Give a poor teacher more money and their teaching will improve? The logic eludes me. USPS is not doing well because it isn't competitive and it has a huge overhead and benefit package. Parents give up their $8K free education and spend $15K for a private education and you say that the public schools need that much money as well to compete. Good logic. Think the teachers are different? And it is just the money? Nice fantasy.

Maybe it will force NetFlix to go to all streaming. I am sure they have been a shot in the arm for the USPS when you look at the number of DVD's they mail out daily. Lose customers like that and you will pay for it.

Parents give up their $8K free education and spend $15K for a private education and you say that the public schools need that much money as well to compete. Good logic. Think the teachers are different? And it is just the money? Nice fantasy. Wall Street argues that paying people more money means attracting more talent. hey, it works for sports teams.... Hollywood....this philosophy has even propagated to the executive level all across the country. But when it comes to non-executive talent, paying more money means...what....wasted tax dollars? There's always lots of talk about "poor" teachers. Well, are they all "poor"? Of course not. Many are brilliant, and the majority are at the least competent. So why blame public schools, or the teachers union? At the very least, let's pay good teachers a lot more. After all, it could attract more talent, right? Over the years there've been many great teachers who've gone from the public system to better-paying jobs in private schools. Or left the profession entirely to make more money in the private sector in non-instructional jobs. As a result we end up with less effective public schools. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Who would want to go into a profession that's criticized every night on TV, and that's blamed for everything young people do wrong...... even blamed for the big jobless rate among recent graduates. The beatings will continue until the morale improves! It's like spanking a depressed kid for considering suicide. So the idea that paying teachers more is a waste of money.... why not apply that to Wall Street as well? If a company loses money, we won't make the CEO pay the company back out of his own pocket...but he or she should receive minimum wage and nothing more. What better way to teach our kids about fairness?
