I'm not a friend of Darren White. I don't belong to his party.
I have always thought of him as Albuquerque's answer to Australia's
Steve "the Crocodile Hunter" Irwin: Sometimes informative, but always amusing and entertaining.

I am puzzled by Albuquerque City Council's obsession with the Darren White affair, i.e, coming to the rescue of his wife and whisking her from the scene of an accident in his City vehicle. I say puzzled because a lawsuit, settled by the City of Albuquerque, claimed that Albuquerque Police Officer Levi Chavez had murdered his wife to keep her quiet about a clique of corrupt Albuquerque Police Officers, including Levi Chavez. The corrupt clique, which includes a Lieutenant, 2 Sergeants, and 5 Albuquerque Police Officers, including Chavez, were according to the lawsuit, participating not only in insurance fraud, but also trafficking in Marijuana. Add to that this same clique traveling without authorization to Valencia County, outside of their jurisdiction, in order to, according to the same settled lawsuit, sanitize and stage the scene of a murder to make it look like a suicide.

After all these revelations, we have not heard ONE PEEP out of City Council about the involvement of so many Albuquerque Police Officers, according to a lawsuit settled by the City of Albuquerque, including 1 Lieutenant, 2 Sergeants and 5 Patrol Officers, including Levi Chavez, in murder, as accessories after the fact and in insurance fraud before and after the fact. These are all SERIOUS FELONIES. So how come Albuquerque City Council is so darned concerned about such a relatively light matter as former Director of Public Safety Darren White's breeches of City
regulations, which don't even rise to the level of a misdemeanor, and they are so cavalier about the very serious felonies that Albuquerque Police Officers have allegedly committed? I mean, where were City Council when Albuquerque Police were flying former Chief Gil Gallegos around in Albuquerque Police's helicopter, Blue Blunder, for a social occasion? Is Albuquerque City Council engaging in selective righteous indignation or what?!

Just get over it. Darren White lost his job for his little peccadillo. Some seasoned supervisors at Albuquerque Police, however, will keep theirs after allegedly engaging in serious felonies as accessories, before, during and after the fact. What the hell is wrong with Albuquerque City Council? Don't they see a tremendous amount of hypocrisy and double standards here?!

Uhhhmmm, let's see, 5,694 posts in say for argument's sake, 576 days. It's probably fewer days than that though, since I'm counting from January 1, 2010. That works out to be an average of about 10 posts a day, every day, 24/7/365. Now that's babbling!

You just proved what I said about babbling. Are you sure you're not Councilor O'Malley in disguise?

So the IRO has found him innocent of anything remotely criminal, let the witch hunt continue. And after the Council has spent a bucket of money, and the end result thin is again, he did nothing wrong, taxpayers will be poorer and Councilors will still be looking for something to pin on him. Sour grapes.

Interesting too how Dep Ch Paiz has been vindicated and the original officer has egg all over his face. Seems his little scheme may have backfired on him.

Interesting too that he said he felt intimidated by White's presence. Intimidated? Hell, the guy has had 2 lawsuits against the city and won both. Intimidated? I think not!

The IRO report said two things to me: That the APD officer at the scene was incompetent. Not only did he fail to do his job by pursuing a DUI investigation, he failed to file his police report in a timely manner.

The other thing I got from the report. We have two incompetent officers, the other being Chief Schultz. Didn't this clown say there was "no probable cause to pursue a DUI investigation" on public TV.

The Beth Paiz issue is still a small question mark with me. Cops are trained liars but given the lack of credibility demonstrated by officer at the scene I take the allegation with a grain of salt.

A word about IRO reports. I have read some of their reports. A friend of mine was involved with some complaints and asked my to read his.(I had been an inspector general investigator for a federal agency in a past life). While the reports I read had not been written by the IRO himself, Mr Deaton, these were poorly done, poorly written and biased. I was a bit shocked. The IG field has tremendous pride in complete, well-written reports with no hint of bias. IRO reports were the exact opposite.

I can agree. As for Schultz comment, as per the officers agreement at the time, in spite of him checking, or erasing an 'X' in a box, the end result was they deemed it not necessary to call a DUI investigator. By the time the smoke had cleared, it was too late to get a reliable sample so Schultz was correct(in a kinda sorta way). The officer in Q is a piece of work isn't he?

I suspect the Council will move forward and have another investigator look at it, which won't change a thing other than costing taxpayers more $$$, even if discrepancies are found and a different final finding too. White will still be gone and nobody else will be called to task or held accountable. Some small rules may have been broken but nothing criminal or illegal occurred it seems.

Most reports done at the request, or regarding incidents involving Albuquerque P.D. and Albuquerque F.D. are biased and poorly written. Probably the most biased one I have ever read was the beaut turned out by R.M. McCarthy & Associates, in January 1997:
"Independent Report to the City of Albuquerque Legal Department on the Albuquerque Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics Unit". The only saving finding hinting at 'independent' was the organization's finding that a(n)(unloaded) gun that Albuquerque Police officers said had been in the possession of their victim,
Manuel Ramirez, who was riddled with bullets in front of his wife and child, had come from the Clovis P.D.'s Evidence Room with absolutely no evidence or paper trail to prove how it had supposedly gotten into Ramirez's hands. We paid $275,000. to his widow for that one. Hey, it's all part of the rich pageant that is Albuquerque's Cavalcade of Corruption. Live and laugh at it all. What's a few lives here and there? After all, water is our most important resource. Fewer mouths around means more water for the rest of us!

I tried several times to post my comment about the IRO findings on the Eye on Albuquerque blog. My comment was simply a repeat of the first two paragraphs from post# 9, above. The Eye refused to post it every time. Their censorship is ridiculous. I also note they have not commented on the IRO report at all. Nothing. Their bias is destroying the blog.

I agree with CD. The council members in question are pandering to the APOA and AFD unions because they intend to seek the Mayor's office in the future.

Buying votes as usual. At a minimum they want something else they'd not waste the time and effort. I'd probably vote for Geraldine Amato before any of los quatro locos.
