Rare Mexican doves at Albuquerque Zoo

The Albuquerque zoo will try to breed Socorro doves from Mexico. Captive-bred doves arrived Thursday at the zoo.

Roasted Dove served with a nice Marsala wine sauce is yummy. And don't forget the fire roasted asparagus and something lemony for dessert.

If you want them to breed then take them to the border and tell them that they get a free ambulance ride to an American hospital before the lay an egg. We will have so many we won’t know what to do with them.

At least the doves serve a purpose, we can eat them.

To those who would make a mockery of them, this is a species that is extinct in the wild. They were wiped out by introduced (by man) feral cats, and the last wild sighting was back in 1972. There are less than 100 of them left today, about 200 if you count crosses to other doves.

There is a picture of one in the captive breeding program at the Bristol Zoo here:
