I too am married to a southern boy from Tennessee and he is nothing like the hillbillies that you see or read about. And he is nothing like DELIVERANCE. Don't know if you have seen that movie or not, with Burt Reynolds,but it scared me of hillbillies.

Deliverance was wildly popular both as a book and a movie, but I think it created a stereotype that backwoods people have yet to live down.

It implied these people were inbred, giving birth to retarded offspring...that happens in Manhattan and everywhere among all races...and inbred offspring are not necessarily retarded or deformed.

But the instant you mention the south or Kentucky or Tennessee the stereotype leaps out and the libel begins.

My brother married a southern belle, a sweet thing from Georgia.

Well if you don't want to broad brush all of the muslim world, don't do the same because one denomination showed a wicked side and fell prey to the devil. The Catholic Church persecuted and killed many christians as well. Ever hear of the protestant reformation? The Catholic Churches persecution of christians wasn't exactly pretty either. So, not only do not broad brush christianity as I do not broad brush the whole muslim world, but realize that just because something like that happened does not give them an excuse to do what they do now. They are doing this against non-catholics and those that have never persecuted anyone. Sorry dude, but my questions now becomes why you are defending them?
