Why do you think they call it potluck? You got have some good luck not to get sick!
Regardless, the jerkoffs in government need to find less intrusive and ridiculous ways to justify their existence. |

1 This potluck nonsense isn't just a city problem, it's statewide so everyone here save a little of your venom for Slick Willie II. During Pork Jowl Billy's first term the state passed the same kind of "potluck" law. King Marty could not be out done so he added the Albukook version to it. The American Legion, VFW, Elks, Moose Lodges, Eagles, the DAV, churches, ALL charitable organizations, have to abide by this stupid law anytime they are serving a meal and the public is invited. This in turn has led to higher costs because the Health Department has to inspect the kitchens in these facilities and if they do not meet their standards a permit will not be issued. As the Commander of our local American Legion Post, I have had to go through this B.S. so I will lay some facts on you. They tell you exactly what kind of freezer you have to have. A chest type or upright freezer that may be donated to you is not good enough, even if it keeps the food at -10 degrees. You have to have a certain size freezer, depending on how many you plan to feed, and it has to be a stainless steel, restaurant approved freezer. An 18 Cu. foot freezer like you have at home costs about $800 while a restaurant approved freezer with the same capacity costs around $6000. You cannot have a nice, clean electric or gas stove like we all cook on at home. This isn't good enough for the Gestapo, i.e., Health Department. You have to buy a restaurant approved monstrosity. The one we have a home costs about $800 while the other costs a little over $10,000. Then you have to have the approved range hood with proper ventilation and a fire suppression system. You also need an approved dishwasher, hot water heater, kitchen sinks, the list goes on and on. What it boils down to is charitable organizations and churches statewide were not paying the state, and in your case Shah Marty, for the right to serve our communities. In my case, the American Legion, everything we make goes to help the needy children in our community. It's the same with all charitable organizations and churches in our state, we are just trying to help people in our little area of the world. But, because of the costs involved in serving food to the public, many have scaled down their efforts or up and quit altogether. Thanks to the stupid, ignorant, uncaring fools in Santa Fe, ALL of them, the people in our communities that need help the most are now getting less. The money charities and churches have to pay for the right to raise funds with their little potluck dinners just takes food from the mouths of those that need it the most. And, as a little aside, I have never, ever heard of anyone getting food poisoning at a local potluck. How many times a year do you hear of people getting sick from eating at a restaurant? Don't the food police "inspect" them too? |

Is this a clue Mayor for life Marty is running for some office. He at least got the outcome correct on this one and that doesn't happen often. I meant never.

I think it was the public food sold at various venues like the State Fair Parade. However, this ordinance has made it very hard for our parent group at our son's church/school to participate in community activities that do not require us using the church/school kitchen. Do these ordinance writers write rough drafts before committing it to law.
If it is free, it should be an eat at your own risk ordinance. I have had worse luck with bad food at restaurants than church potlucks. |

Sorry Right, you are wrong!! It will be single ply tissue, about as thick and brittle as a dry onion skin, and you will only be allowed to use 3 squares at a time! |

The city [Martino Chavezo] needs to clean its own back yard before it starts cleaning someone else!
Potlucks are freshly made and very tasty. They are better than restaurant prepare food! I’ll go for potlucks any time! |

I believe I heard that Marty has attended this event in the past.
What I find ridiculous is that they've done it for 80 years and just now get grief for it? I'm pretty sure these people know what they're doing. Sadly, this is what happens when there are too many trial lawyers out there. Too many Ron Bell types. How sad that it's come to this. That you can't "help" people unless you do it with the city's permission. I'm surprised Marty's lawyers haven't gone after the homeless to make sure they've filed a 1099 form. |
