Truth is the Police Chief should NOT be appointed by the Mayor, to do so makes him an extension of whatever the Mayor wants.

Have a totally political free committee screen top ranking Officers and Chiefs from around the USA and chose one who will enforce our laws equally.

Not show favoritism, not back his Officers when they are wrong, DWI or let out favored drunks from the drunk van.

Chose one who can set priorities and get things done.

Chose one who won't lie about we have a serious gang problem but I just learned about it etc.

And NO double dipping Officers are allowed on the force, all now double dipping must be fired.

12 years is long enough to fix any problem. Marty...you're fired! Your buddies are in prison and we have more overpaid cops than ever blocking traffic lanes of traffic at fender benders. These guys will become our biggest long term liability after their 20 years and then retirement with full benefits. That is Not how to run a city unless you live in California. Did I say fired? Good!

Man, it erks me to hear about what we will look forward to in the "new administration" under Mayor Chavez. Has he really been there for twelve years? This city should be humming. I love this place but here we are with the same old problems and hearing the same old and tired promises. Need a new vision for a new time. Obama is trying to push us into the new century. We can do that here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The next mayor must clear away old bs and be ahead of the pack not just one of the rabid herd.

Chief Ray Schultz has done an exceptionally good job in this department considering the lousy backing he’s received from the city council; he deserves to be commented. If Richard Romero's going to fire Ray Schultz, then he's lost our vote!
You don't fix something that's not broken!
When a newly elected mayor takes over, he doesn’t turn the city inside out without considering who has benefited the city.
I strongly believe Romero’s dead wrong, I also believe he’s prejudice!

As I have said many times before remove Politics from both Law Enforcement and Military operations too many people are hurt if not. I have been in this Political Valley before I used to say the same things about my leaders at times until I was one myself then it was a real wake up call the position, now I was on the outside of the circle looking in a very (lonely and demanding place believe me)! It's a no-win situation for many and realized how truly challenging it could be - and like the native saying two ear's and one mouth was vital to me. I remember what a Lt. General Jay Kelly, Ret, VP of Military Programs, when I worked the federal contractor Sr. Analyst, briefed to us during a class on Integrity and Ethics immediate supervisors or in police line of duty a field Sgt or FTO and I quote”“As an members leader you are the most influential role model, it is the direct supervisor who most shapes and molds the beliefs and attitude of the work force. The long-lasting effect of what an integrity filled leader says and does is astounding.” And remember too, we all have strengths and weaknesses even Chiefs! Every day brings new wisdom and challenges and you never truly graduate from the school of experience as its life-long lessons!

"Romero is calling for an audit of police department management, arguing there are too many cops behind desks and not enough on the streets."

He has already made up his mind before the audit? I wonder what other pre-conceived notions he will be forcing down our throats. Vote NO to this fool.

I do agree that a mayor should pick his own team if, he is going to be responsible for every department.
Vote Romero

A successful and outstanding police chief? What a laugh. People killing others all the time due to no enforcement of the traffic laws and rampant crime. How can chavez possible state that?

I agree that Schultz should go. However the chief of police job should not be a political appointee.

Hey stop stealing my line, I said that already.

And it is true it is time to end politics appointing Police Chiefs.

They don't appoint Fire Chiefs do they?

And personally I think a new Chief from out of state with a sold track record of running gangs out should be a priority.

then enforcing the law more equally and not be so darn worried about red light camera's.

That is just a start, we do need more Officers and better pay to keep them, we need better training and bring back the 8 hour 5 or 6 day work week.

And stop hiring those fried or asked to leave from other police departments AND do a much more through background check.

The trouble with Ray is that he has never been a "cop's cop". He has been a political animal inside the department with a huge streak of do-gooder in him.
He lets Marty meddle in police matters and is indeed a puppet.
I like Ray but he's a faker.
Ray is not a policeman. Never was.

What does Marty have to show for 12 years in power? Crime has not gone down in spite of the police force going up dramatically. Time for a change. Enough already.

Didn't you realize he has had 12 years? He was elected Mayor in 1993, did not run for reelection though, for Mayor in 1997, but that's the first 4 yrs.

In 1997 Jim Baca was elected.

In 2001, Marty ran again and became Mayor: second 4 years

and in 2005 he was reelected: third 4 years.

Now he wants another 4 years, to have 16 years of his shoddy control.

Get out the vote and vote for either of the other two, I prefer Romero, but anyone, anyone except Marty again would be an improvement. And Either of the other two will serve us better than Marty.

What needs to be done is for everyone to talk to their neighbors and make it clear Marty has to go, he has done all he can behind closed doors to break the term laws and run again.

Does not matter what party you belong to, get people to vote and vote for anyone but the Midget.

Daily Horoscope for November 8

Cancer

Try to find a balance while the Moon passes through your second house of personal finances, challenging deceptive Neptune in your house of other people's money. You may be giving away too much, whether it's tangible or intangible things. Then again, this is a potentially spiritual time for you. Just remember, you don't have to give away everything and join a convent to be cleansed.
