Russia seeks to sell stealth jets to Korea

I'm sure, USA won't let Korea to buy Russian jet fighters even if it's better and cheaper, because they want to sell their F-35. But at least it can help Koreans to demand the lower price from the USA. So, that could be good for our relations with Korea...

Why would Koreans allow US to dictate to them what to buy ?

Of course they would allow. There are American base in Korea and plenty of military agreements about defense in case of new conflict with North Korea. I don't see how Koreans would be able to say "no" to Americans. There are almost no chance for resolving of the Korean conflict, because the existence and hostility of North Korea is in interests of the United States.

Considering they have nuclear weapons I would think that what North Korea does is in the interests of Russia too. Not sure if NK could actually get their weapon to go where they want it to go but they have some. The guy leading that country is a nut of the first type. Until he and his son are gone nothing will change there.

Most likely, arms deals will be divided between russkies & yankees then.

Why should we arm North if our closest trade and technological partner is South? The possibility to sell anything to North Korea sound like a joke because they can't pay even for food.

well, you see, South Korea has already bought 60 (!!!!) Russian made Kamov Ka-32 helicopters for its Coast Guard and several russian made light trainer jets for airforce - so I think that Russian cooperation with South Korea in miolitary technology sphera has good perspective. Russians launched into space several South Korean satelites and cooperate with them in nuclear power technology.

I didn't knew about helicopters. So then maybe we have a chance, but the contract is very large, so Americans will fight for it very seriously.
I know that we are helping S.Korea to develop their first space rocket too, but there were some problems with this rocket the last time a heard about that story.

Countries that are allies to the USA increasingly don't buy US military equipment, but divert their purchase towards other supplier. That happens in NATO and it could well happen in other parts of the world too.
The USA have lost their monopoly in military procurement in the free world, just like they have lost their supremacy in commercial aviation and many other spheres...

I believe if North Korea did not have nukes, the imperialist thugs of the USA would have made some excuse to invade the north.
They would have done to NK what they did to Iraq.

There are no oil - no reason to invade. North Korea is good for USA, because it help them to explain their large-scale military presence in the region.

And what would that be? If you asked most Americans they would tell you that they would rather NOT have troops in South Korea. A simple waste of men, material and money. BUT I would say that the instant that the US were to pull out of South Korea the North would invade, again. Just an opinion.

Korea has been buying russian equipment since the korean war. Just ask john mccain. he was shot down by a mig, then a democrat.

Furthermore, while I love my country, the wisdom of entering a plane that hasn't even been completed yet into competition with others seems debatable.

Their army is much weaker. South Korea have modern equipment, North Korea have equipment of 1960th. Nuclear bomb is the only serious thing they have. But using it North Korea will inevitably turn Russia and China into their enemies.
