1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

The voting rights act of 1965 allowed for enforcement of the 15th amendment. The right to vote was PERMANENTLY given to black people in the 15th amendment. You fucking morons that believe other wise. God you are dumb and do no research. Whoopi, what a fucking name

People need to learn the real reason of the Civil WAR, it WASN'T over slavery. The North used the free the slaves act against the south who had revolted against the noth because of politics NOT slavery. The South wanted to receed from the 13 colonies and the North didn't want them to because the North couldn't funcition without the cheap products of the SOUTH. Look it up for your self. History just ain't taught right anymore. Read several articles about it on the www. and make up your own mind.

The Civil War was over States Rights vs Federal Rights. On merit, the South should have won. They were for States Rights.

The North was for a strong Federal Gov't, and wanted to limit State powers.

Lincoln saw the slave issue as a moral rallying cry. He was folllowing anti-slavery movements common in Northern cities of the time.

It gave the Union cause cover for the true intention: ever stronger and more meddling Federal Govt. We all see where that's gotten us.

all i can say is that im sick and tired of hearing all this racism. not one of the replies i have read do anything but promote our problem of racism. somebody says something and someone says something right back just to perpetuate the problem. if we could all learn to look beyond the problems of in equality and racism our nation might accomplish something as a whole and quit tearing itself apart as have so many great civilizations before us.

Why do black people think all white people had slaves? My ancestors did not come to this country till the late 1800's--1895 to be exact and settled in the north of this country. No one had slaves--nor was there segregation. Nor was I ever allowed to use that N word ever--my brother did at home once and boy did my dad come down on him and the lecture started that basically went they are Gods people too and no different than you and something about looking at a mans soul and not their skin. You look in their eyes not the color of their face and on his lectures went. But we got the message.

Whoopi said whites use that word in their home--not my home nor my fathers or grandfathers or aunts and uncles.

I always hate when people say "all" people--"everyone" Nothing is all and everyone. We are not robots or cloned.
I used to say "everyone" when I was a kid and wanted something. You pull out "but I want one "everyone" has one!"

Who gave Whoopi and Sherri the authority to speak for white people? This is Barbara Walters show and what made Whoopi think she had the right to use the N word 3 times on the show and disrespect Barbara? Seemed like Barbara was appalled with Whoopi's behavior.
