Twist, locks, anything but chemicals. I remember when I was became pregnant, and I went natural, do to the warnings from the chemicals in the perms/shampoos,, I remember looking in the mirror and feeling so impowered, I was no long under the influence that I could only be attactive if my hair was long and straight and just hanging sadly upon my head.. now it reaches for the sun.. no gravity pull here, and its natural color hues provide me with a constent feeling of change even though I dont make any changes.. its just beautiful..

That is the problem with many black people today. JUST because someone relaxes their hair does NOT mean they are trying to be white. They have the DAMN right to wear their hair however the hell they want. Not everyone likes the afro/nappy look. It's a personal choice that does NOT involve others. People like you REALLY need to stop criticizing black women for doing EXACTLY what women of ALL races do. I have never worn a weave and my hair is a nice length and it is very healthy and well taken care of...and I relax it. Not that I have to explain to you or anyone else.
hahahahaha! honey, you're nothing more than a joke to me.you so bitter, and it shows in your every response,no matter the topic or who you're corresponding with. if your hair is healthy,GOOD FOR YOU!! i'll make sure you get your cookie, okay?? but if you'll notice sweetie, the subject is about women with bad and damaged hair....NOT YOU,so fall back, okay? your hair naturally is pretty so why you gotta change it IF you love yourself so much??......cause you wonna be white that's why. spare me the typical excuses, too: it's convenient,i do it for versitility...bullspit!you wish you looked like ms.clairol, that's what it is. newsflash for ya hon,YOU AINT WHITE! HAHAHAHAHA! instead of spending all your cash on relaxer, try investing in a man,it will work wonders for your spitty little attitude.

i remember when i went natural,i felt "free",it was the strangest feeling, but it felt good, though. i mean i felt so liberated. it even inspired me to start taking care of myself better in terms of my diet. i cut alot of stuff outta my diet and just became more aware of my health and the choices i was making. it's like a had a rebirth....seriously.

this female is a trip! now ,i hate that i had to sound so harsh on her,but the way she responded to me was a little rude in my opinion.i used to relax my hair, because i really did think that our natural african american hair was ugly, like i can admit that.i thought it was ugly and everyone liked the weaves and relaxers and all the guys, too. so i felt like i had to do that to fit in.i was brainwashed into thinking my hair was ugly. and one day i stopped to think,"why is my hair ugly? according to who?" i don't know where that realization came from, but i cut ALL my hair off and it was sooooo long. it's been almost 5 years and i'm still natural, for life. i can say from experience that on some level no matter how much or how little,on some level, that girl hates her hair and thinks straight looking white girl hair is prettier, but i believe she knows that, just wont admit it cause doesn't wonna look like a self hater. funny thing is,she STILL looks like a self hater.

I like that "looking like a self hater" I have always said that black women must look like a mysterious combination of pity,, diets have us all swollen and ill, then we top it of with strangers hair attached to our heads, but the Self hater is the best discription of it ,, I like it.. please dont be angry if you see me repeat it. I will be using it.. thanks

Wow. Another joke for a poster. You live in "Lynch em" Texas, which happens to be one of THE most colorstruck and hair obsessed states in this country. Close your mouth because nobody was even adressing you.

Ok maybe this is just here in the ghettoes of Cali, but maybe it exsists in other places too. It seems that there is an increasign amount of black women who are bald around the edges of the hairline. I see this A LOT. I guess the braids rip out all the baby hair, but then it keeps going and going. Why, do so many sisters think it cute to just brush a few strands of hair accross 2 inches of bald around the edges and then have the nerve to hang a fake ponytail off of that nub under there? These chiks forheads be starting ON TOP of thier heads!
How can they not be embarrassed? They brush and brush and brush with Pro-Style till theres no more hair on the temples, how far will they go before they realize that all they have left is a clip on pony tail attached to a nub of hair in the middle of thier head! And some even have the nerve to put those little babyhair patterns on the side in little sqiggles or lines...
Please if you have seen this phenomenon or have an answer please post.
WHY NOT WEAR A NICE WIG?
I guess that they are making a drastic attempt to give themselves a decent looking hair style. Sounds like they are in DENIAL to me. I feel for any woman who is losing or has lost her hair,as it is very devestating, given that in this society hair creates our look, and largely creates our attract-tiveness.Hopefully to many who are bald around the forehead, that it is temporary. I myself don't have the full length of strong hair that I had in my twenties, and I get real depressed when I see my hairline somewhat receding, but it is not that bad, hoping that it won't keep going, and is only temporary, and hair will rebound.Feel for them instead,it is no light matter to lose your hair,is very depressing.Things to do to eliminate certain abuses of hair growth, are stop perming, stop dying, stop tight braiding, stop with the tight weaving.Eat balance meals.Avoid stress, as stress can bring on permanent baldness.

Sadly enough, those of you who posted the negative words on this thread did not consider that the bald woman's feelings you're hurting could be your mother, sister, aunt, daughter, friend. No one wants to be bald, trust me. Whatever the reason for a black woman's baldness, I'm sure she would have hair if it were that simple and easy. Support your sisters and be compassionate.
Say the same. Hair loss can occur to anyone. You can have hair today, and somewhere down the road, loose your hair.A cousin of mine handsome as they come, had a beautiful head of thick curly dark hair,up until he was in his early 30s,when his hair became drastically receded. It is a serious thing when you lose some physical feature that onces defined your good looks. Can happen to anyone, you don't know what is in store for you,so don't bash people who have lost their hair, please. Not addressing this to you Dirtybird, but to those who are poking fun at those who have had hair loss.

How about us black women who shave our heads and wear the bald look as a fashion style.
If you have nice, feminine features, the bald look is exotic and alluring on a beautiful black lady, and some handsome men love that look on a lady, I know my man does.
Doll yourself up with makeup, long dangle earrings, a nosestud, beautiful dress,'hose and 'heels.
I love my black women with bald
A bald i am a black man i think it even looks more
sexy to me, more women should do it.

These comments were very interesting. I'm bald and very beautiful. Hair doesn't make a woman or man. Just the opposite. I don't miss my hair one bit. As a matter of fact, I shave my head everyday to keep it smooth. Please check me out at JuliaElaineBledsoe.com You can view my picture. Having hair is a wonderful thing, however; having life is even better. I didn't loose my hair from neglect, I lost it due to illness, and I don't want it back. It reminds me of how precious life is.

The bald look is stunning. I remember seeing a black bald woman in a grocery store. She was so stunning I had to tell her.
