I'm a liberal, but banning guns will probably cause more trouble.
It's hard enough banning drugs. Banning something will only make it more desirable and people will go through more extremes to get it.

All we need to do is enforce the gun laws already in place. Perhaps some degree of monitoring the mental welfare of people before a gun purchase is made. We have mechanisms in place to prevent underaged people from buying alcohol, so maybe something similar can be done for guns.

What have we been successful at banning?
Books?
Alcohol?
Drugs?
Pornography?
Music?

Leave the guns alone and just enforce the laws already in place.

If this in emotional response to the Aurora tragedy, I say that if EVERYONE was armed the same as the perp, then he would have been iced within the his first 6 shots, less deaths and would have saved the price of a trial.

Guns are here to stay - the UK has amongst the strictest gun laws in the world - even most of their police are not armed - yet it still has massacres as bad as Aurora every now and then.

People wanting to kill people has always happened and always will - if not by guns they will find another means.

Anyhow more people are killed by automobiles each year - would you also say ban automobiles?

In a population of over 300 million with millions of gun owners, as tragic as the day was, the death toll is pretty low. If I were affected, sure I'd be pissed - or dead - but that is why decisions should be made by the community as a whole and not as knee-jerk reaction to tragedy by subjective humanity.

Besides there are more deaths by illegal guns in the US than there are with legal ones, what does that say? It says that criminality and guns is a bigger problem than legal possession.

If you took the guns away from EVERY citizen legally allowed to possess them - including you - gun crime would still be ongoing, will still be high look at the figures how many of the thousands of gun deaths per year in the US are committed by legal gun carriers?

Illegal possession of guns is a bigger problem in the US than legal possession.

At the end of the day, people get shot by people, people with guns. A gun is a tool, next you'll be wanting to ban knives, baseball bats and fists SMDH

Compared to the frequency that it happens in the US? I don’t think so. Not even close. I goes that doesn’t matter?

If people want to kill they still will, there are plenty of other means from crossbow to poison.

Man has always murdered and always will - understanding the mentality isn't ever going to happen and the mentally ill CAN beat any psychiatrist, I have witnessed folks go from happy to totally ape for no reason at all - seemingly - and even after prison and tests no one knows why they done it. Not even the guy himself.

Banning them would just more empower the criminal element that is already illegally armed.

The UK has VERY strict gun laws and it still has a gun problem.

Prohibition is not the solution - as it NEVER is.

May as well waste time and have a discussion on the fastest way to walk to the moon. Both discussions would produce zilch!

There are too many guns in circulation.

End of story.

...and how do you deal with illegally held arms?

If everyone at that cinema were armed the same as the perp - he would have been dead in seconds - and more lives would have been saved.

Banning legally held arms would barely touch the death by gun statistics - young black and white folks will still be killed by illegal weapons.

And yet it's the negrows that are 850% more likely to be involved in a gun related shooting than a white person. So I guess you fail.

You're idealistic and impressionable today, and want to see the best in everyone. Look straight past their faults, pretending they aren't there; concentrate on their good points instead. If a new relationship gets off the ground now it will always be characterized by an aura of romance and fantasy, and a slightly otherworldly quality.
