And the last time I check Oprah, Bob Johnson are not light skin and they are the two riches black people in america even though they are a couple of mother****ing uncle toms that love to pleasing white people. Listen i can understand that ,so if i offended you in anyway i personally apologize. That is true .You guys have to take shit from the white man ,because you black ,and shit from your own people because you aren't so called "black enough". However ,i do still believe that alot of lightskin blacks sometimes think they're somehow better ,because they're closer to the white mans complexion. And when you said yall have to take shit from darkskin blacks ,were you refering to brown blacks or real darkbrown blacks, because the lightskin blacks i know say they take shyt from all blacks who aren't lightskin ,the brown and darkbrownskin ones. chocolate flavor

I believe it's true to some degree, especially when it comes to women. I hear a lot of guys talking about they the light skin girl with long hair, totally diregarding the fact that there are a lot of beautiful darker toned females out there as well. I've dated both, so I don't have a preference.

This is a fact and old as the dust and will not change. People assume better things about light skinned people and are nicer. My mother and sisters are all light skinned, and I am not and I observed this daily for the whole of my life. I do agree with you soulflower, that light skinned blacks are more accepted, the american media certainly does promote that but in my own opinion ive never seen these issues occuring in my everyday life. I have a sister thats darker skinned who is very beautiful but skin complexion has never been an issue growing up for neither of us and i just don't understand some of the posters here who feel they are being "held back" because they are of a darker skin colour i mean can you honestly say its that big of an issue where a person has to deal with it daily. Obviously im not from america so i wouldn't how it would be like to live as a black person over there this is just what experinced as a BW living in the uk.

My grandma and grandpa who have passed on were both dark skin and I love them to death so when I hear people talk about dark skin or light skin it pisses me off.

That crap you're talking is ludacris ,because they see one color ,and that's black trust me. If you're not white you're not right to them racist ones. They may be more intemidated by the darke blacks ,but they don't hate or dislike us any worst. If it's anybody who knows how whites feel about blacks based on color ,it's me.In 90% of interracial couples the black person in the relationship is dark brown ,or medium brown ,not lightskin. I've personally talked to whites who said they like darkskin blacks better ,because they think darker blacks keep it real and seem real ,where as lightskin ones try to act like them and they hate that shyt with a passion. And i, by the way ,heard this by several whites in more than one state. They said the same shyt when i lived in San Antonio ,TX as they did when i lived in WASHINGTON, DC ,Portsmouth ,VA,and now in PHILADELPHIA. They do not like blacks who look white or try to act white,so i don't know where you got that from or what whites you're around ,but the ones i been around, and that's been alot of them, don't feel that way . They feel the total opposite of what you said. They also want darker blacks so that their babies can come out with lightbrown, tan skin, full lips and black people shapes. These are the ones who fxck with blacks. They know they can't make a mix looking baby with a yellow black ,because then it'll come out looking just white ,like mariah carey. So that you said was false. Most whites get along beter with darkskin blacks more than real blacks, because they feel they try to emulate them. chocolate flavor

Truth wrote: Light skinned blacks are light skinned because they have European DNA, so they are smarter, therefore they have it easier. Your logic isn't too logical. A light-skinned person can have a brown-skinned or dark-skinned sibling (both having the same parents and thus sharing 100% of the same DNA). So does the light-skinned sibling have more European DNA than his/her darker sibling? The answer is "NO". Too many people on Topix (you included) confuse phenotype with genotype.

mikehuntusa wrote: <quoted text> yes i'm serious. i'm white, i'm not exactly up on the latest black skin care products out on the market today, so thanks for answering. now that i know you can do that i repeat, it seems a bit extreme. i mean i thought michael jackson really did have a skin disease. i know a black person who has lupus and she gets little sores on her skin and when they heal that skin loses pigmentation so she has places on her arms that are white now... so i believed something similar may have been going on with michael jackson. to bleach your skin to try to meet some standard of beauty is not only a little extreme, but it's kind of sad really. it's almost like hating yourself. He is supposed to have something like Vitiligo where the skin loses pigmentmentation. But with vitiligo it happens in patches, and never goes fully one color. Michael just got progressively lighter and lighter, until he became lighter than your average white person. When he and his sister Latoya were not getting along, she told the media she never heard of Michael having a skin condition of any kind. Funny thing is, her skin has gotten lighter and lighter through the years too, and like her brother she also now has a nearly non existant nose. So I think they both have the same condition, and addiction to plastic surgery, and face and body alterations

I wrote a whole essay similar to yours on another thred explaining how having a light skin color doesn't make you less black and more white than a dark or brown black person. I used me in my 5 siblings as an example. We all have the same two parents .My mother's dark my fathers lighter. Some of us came out a mixture ,some came out light or dark.Me and one of my sister came out dark. Now the average idiot walking down the street with that stupid myth that light blacks are more white than dark blacks will assume that my lighter brother and sister were half white or less black than me and my dark sister. When in fact we are equally black and have the same exact of european blood in us if any. They're obviously not too bright and don't have common sense and are some complete imbecile idiots to think something so stupid.Halle berry is brownskin and have two white parents ,which means she has more white blood than my sister, who's lighter than halle berry. That right there shows you that skin color doesn't represent ethnicity or the amount of european blood one has all the time ,because halle has more european blood in her being 50/50 ,than my sister who has two black parents but my sister is much lighter. So does that mean my sister is more white than halle berry ? No. CHOCOLATE FLAVOR

Skin color isn't really that big of a deal if you are not striving for anything. You see, the problem is when you are very ambitious and you are going for yours, then you are met with confrontation. Dark skinned individuals who don't encounter it are the ones that usually don't explore and try things. Therefore, they may sit back and say, it doesn't exist. My company attended the recent Comic book convention and turned the place out. Some of the caucasians wanted to give us dirty looks and cop an attitude. My strategy and booth was so off the hook that w-folks couldn't resist. My point, continue to strive for excellence despite opposition and haters. It will change the masses.

80 people have answered this poll so far. 55 (68%) agree that light skinned blacks are treated better and 25 (31%) disagree. So most people do realize that light skinned blacks are treated better. I bet those that answered "no" are light skinned themselves.

Very smart post i agree, its all about ambition sometimes it will be harder for some but if you are willing to work harder and put you're all into it than nothing can stop you from achieving but yourself.

Being dark skinned is only good if you want to hang out in the hood with other black folks and not do anything with your life. If you want to go out into the world, be successful, and make a life for yourself, then being dark is not so great. I hate my skin color and really wish I could change it.

I really wish there was something out there that actually worked though. I’m willing to pay big money for it.

I bet you think white privilege doesn’t even exist either. When you're black and dark it's hard not to hate yourself in a world like this.
