White People Are Uniquely Homophobic

More rantings about race will help no one. The blame for our losses in all states should be placed where it belongs: on Republicans and religious whackos.

A great deal of the virulent homophobia I have personally witnessed or experienced has been at the hands of blacks. I live in a very diverse city - Toronto, Canada - and blacks, both men and women, don't think twice about making homophobic comments.

Whites are paranoid and afraid about blacks also.

This article is based in racism. The observations about the Proposition 8 vote in California were perfectly valid--black voters were far more likey to have votee in favor of Prop 8 than white voters.

I've read numerous articles--written by black members of the LGBT community--which loudly decry the disproportionate homophobia among black Americans.

The vote in Maine does not paint a racial profile of white homophobia as much as it illustrates how much money NOM spent on fearmongering and deceptive TV ads.

This article is a snarky racist jab at white people, and admits that it's motivation is retribution for the stinging rebuke of black homophobia which was statistically tabulated from the California Prop 8 campaign.

One percent of the people in Maine are black. For this article's finger-pointing to mean anything, it would have to compare the percentage of black Maine voters who voted "no" to the percentage of white voters who voted "no." The article does not do that.

I suspect because such a comparison would again reveal the disproportionate ratio of homophobia, even in Maine's black community.

Much of the black population here is Jamaican, which might explain it.

Well the difference would be that 70% of black voters in California voted for discrimination against gays whereas in Maine it was closer to 53%.

Yeah, when I was in Jamaica a couple of years ago, I was pretty much accused of being gay, because I refused to bring a hooker to my hotel room. I was trying to explain that I simply dont like dirty hookers and that I didnt come to Jamaica to sleep with 14 year old girls, that were constantly shoved in front of me. Talk about homophobia...lol In that little backwards country, people still organize mobs to beat or kill anyone gay and they will defend those actions to no end. That 65 IQ average is pretty clear.

The Dominican Republic has some very reasonable vacation packages. If your country weren't so stupid about foreign affairs, you'd be able to join Canadians in taking advantage of the cheapest place to vacation in the Caribbean - Cuba.

Most blacks are dems and most whites are not dems and since the dems are the supposed savior of the gays from oppression, blacks are clearly homophobic while whites stand on their principles.

No, I wont be going back to Jamaica for sure. Ive been to DR this year, and while its truly a great destination for those that like to spend their time inside the resort, I like a little more adventure and an opportunity to learn local culture and customs. DR is nice, but most resort clusters are in places like Punta Cana, 3 hours away from any DR town - giving you little reason to do anything outside the resort.

I think its safe to say that as far as we all have come in gaining freedom, liberty and true acceptance (vs tolerance), we all have a long way to go in all areas: gender, race, orientation, etc.
Tolerance is not acceptance or equality and we have all been tolerating each other....
and that's okay for a stop gap measure, but we need to get over our cheap imported selves and embrace our diversity and accept each other and get on with it. Sure the laws protect blacks and women from discrimination, but that's not an end to racism. Racism is still very much alive and it's virulent in the GLBT community. I see it every day. I'm guilty of having a backsliding thought or two myself, so I try to be mindful and separate the prejudices I was raised with (as a republican) and retrain myself to be an accepting and progressive minded being.
We should all make an attempt to do this.

Fear is a motivating factor in bigotry. We need to end the fear. Replace it with love.

So today I send out love to all my brothers and sisters all over the planet (still working on the fundies though....I have a real problem with them!)

Well, I've been hunting for actual exit poll stats, and I can't find that figure for Maine. However, if that's the case, then the assertion can only be that black voters in Maine are roughtly equal, on average, in their homophobia, while perhaps being more homophobic on the west coast.
