i feel great about mixed people, i guess im biased since i myself am biracial. my mom is white.
i was raised by my white side only....only recently have i awoken to the racist world we live in, and it is depressing.
but my problem i have is white and black people, you know the monoracial people telling me how i am supposed to see myself. i see myself as a white girl. a black girl. a mulatto girl. i use what i am to my advantage...im someone who likes to take up the opportunities when given...as a minority, you are automatically given fewer opportunities...and even fewer as a female...so why decline opportunities given to you because of politics?
i like the word mulatto cause it strictly relates to people of my mix...you know black and white. i find it ironic that those most offended by it are usually whites and blacks, the word isnt half as bad as the n word in my opinion. mulatto is kinda catchy. a word is only as bad as you let it be.
the pain of being mixed though is not being accepted. no matter how you view and see yourself, you will always be this or that. but i just get really annoyed when someone tells me how im supposed to be.
i hate it when white people make a mockery out of mulattoes just to chastise and hate on obama.
but the great thing about being mixed is that you can be 3 races whenever you want to be, and no one can say or do difference (they can think it and that is it), as long as there is no official law telling you how you have to see yourself, you have the benefit of being 3 races.
if you are mulatto you can self identify as a black person, or a white person, or just a biracial person. no one has the right to criticize as no one can account for their personal experiences that led them to that decision.
it really does annoy me when monoraces like blacks and whites try to speak on behalf of mulattoes...we may be able to relate to blacks when it comes to racism...but we do endure some things differently...we have twice the racism and colorism on top of that, that we may possibly go through...dont criticize one's choice to view themselves as they are...you have no opinion or right to their personal decision in the end.

First off I have no problems with biracial people and have no problem dating outside my race. I love black women though (being a blk male). In regards to the post above don't forget though how hard dark skinned blk women have it sometimes though. We monoracials always seem to favor lighter skin so colorism is a problem. Also we blk people get as much racism as multiracial people do, it's just more outright and a different kind. I have biracial cousins and love them yet I love being full black as well because I feel unlike my multi racial cousins, I can fully identify with black people. Anyway though, I have no problem with mixed people as long as they don't feel they are superior to me like white people (although most mixed folks I have met don't have this attitude).

I don't care is a person biracial or not. I don't care about what race a person is. I care about the culture. As long as that person is not smoking weed, wearing baggy pants and speaking ebonics which I can hardly understand, I'm fine with him.

I completely agree! We should have a name.
Not mulatto, because back then it was a racist word.
But they should have it this way.For example, if we are writing an application for race, it should not only have black, asian, white, etc. but mix people, also.
We're American. But does it really matter?? I just let people guess, and for application I put in something different every time. It's funny how people are way off, though.

My exhortation to the bi-racial community is to get to know who you are as a person, coupled with celebrating who you are racially. If you metriculate from a particular stock of peoples who have made major contributions where it has effected all of humanity, for many generations; by all means that is something to rejoice over. If you come from a particular demograph of people who do not have the history of being very contributory to humanity, and have inflicted pain that led to another peoples destruction/dipondency, please do not take the route of apathy that would suggest that just because it wasn't you per se' that caused the damage that you are not held responsible, because you are! You may not have commited the crime, but due to your indifferece you may be giving hedge to not keeping it from happening again. Whoever you are, whatever you are be proud, but be responsible.

Biracial is a strangely offensive word. We don't hear much in the media about the works and or misdeeds of the yellow man or the red man these days. The brown race is a tad confusing since so many can opt in and out of it's ranks with a good tan or a long winter.
We seem to know that referring to Asians as the yellow race is old fashioned and rude.

There is only one race: human.

There are many cultures and many ethnicities.

My children and I are multiethnic. We are not half human and half subhuman which was biracial was meant to imply.

I am half black/half white as well.
On my mom's side (who is black), her mother didn't want my mom to marry my white father. But eventually, her mother was like, "Whoever makes you happy, makes me happy!"
On my dad's side (who is white), they were surprisingly VERY accepting. I love that side of my family. Maybe even more than my other side.
I am a black girl. Still. NO one says, "Oh she is half black!" at school or anything. I am black.
ummm yea hun you got that 1 but quick question....what makes a biracial person black??because of a drop of black blood?,what the media says?,or what other black people consider them to be??,why is it that a biracial person can't say that"im mixed"or "im a mixed american" with out it being offensive to african americans making it seem as though because them being more than just one race there better?,Most consider themselves black because of what they were brought up to be or because they don't look at being a halfa a good thing to talk about.Im black, puerto rican, apache indian, german, and italian and i am hella proud to a mixed american and wouldn't have it any other way,i take pride in all that i am and im not gonna call myself black because my mom calls herself black or because i have a drop of black blood in me this is 2010 like i consider myself what ever and because i have strong hispanic features i'd consider myself puerto rican if i wanted to honestly, and anywayz why would i call myself black if im not fully black???,but yea thats my opinion and if what im saying is offensive or makes it seem as though i am separating myself from african americans then o well but im mixed and proud people are just gonna have to deal with it

I'm biracial-black/white{my mother is white& my father is African American and native} I am proud to say that there are NO people in my family against my parents' marriage. The only family we have on my mother's side is my aunt who is AMAZING. Everyone on my father's side who associates with my mother loves her. I hate the one-drop rule. I refuse to pick one race. I am mixed. I am proud. When having to choose I will choose other.

I don't know why so many biracial people have such a problem with the race boxes. I'm 15 and ever scince I was bubbling those in for tests I was pround to mark in african american for some tests or hispanic or latio on some, I didn't let the government make me feel any less because they didn't know who I am. And I figured this out at an early age... I have no identity crisis! And no one could tell me that I do. Being cuban and black, my personality traits fit in with neither- because I'm reserved in public and I can't dance for beans lol. Both of my cultures are loud and they like to party. I notice along the. Year that I fit in with white kids and biracials who take common intrests with me. For instance I'm a big classic rock fan and love bob dyaln- I can relate more to a 50 year old white man kinda creepy tho lol. And I shop vintage and american apparel like most white girls do. But no way am I a lick of white. I'm cuban and black and both of my herritages shine through me no matter who I might act like.

I think the only reason there has been so much so called identity crisis is because after all these years America still makes you pick between white and Black there is no Bi/racial, mullatto,or whatever other category that there should be for a mixed person & I really hate having the OTHER category like we are sub humans or something without a title. for the ones who look dam near white are they suppose to forsake their black roots? for the ones who favor more looking black are they supposed to forsake their white heritage? and so on and so forth depending on what you are mixed with. As a mixed person myself with a white mother & black father, with multi cultural relatives including Asians, I think it is sad to have to choose, we are beautiful people that experience more than one culture and we should not have to choose WHAT COLOR that we want to be
That is the only reason for any type of identity crisis We dont technically fit into society we are still considered muts or half breeds by the government not fit to have our own race. I personally identify more with my black heritage but I totally feel like just what I am a mixed person! most people think I am puerto rican or hispanic of some sort and they always ask me what I am? I say I am bi-racial with white and black, but I still wish we had an official name!

Half caucasian and half latino, I think I am blessed for being biracial. I get along with both (white and latinos) really well, and I even speak spanish as a mother tongue!
I cannot complain, really.

I feel the same way about all people regardless of what they look like.

I've had to judge character and demeanor above all other things. That's what matters the most. It's nice that someone is bi-racial, black, white or Cuban. However, I prefer people I can trust who are smart. I also value a sense of humor.

I am a native of Botswana, in southern Africa. I am bi-racial and proud of it! My mother is black african and my father is white European. In southern africa we have three races - white, black and coloured. If you're not 'pure' white or 'pure' black then you are coloured! Nice and simple!
