Kenneth Clarke (in Mock 1988) Parents are the earliest and most powerful source of racial attitudes (positive or negative), while peers run a close second (Savard and Aragon 1989). By the early grades every child carries at least some stereotyping. Institutional and cultural prejudices are more subtle because they are embedded in unexamined assumptions and established procedures. The roots of these are multigenerational and can persist even after years of legislative remedies. This is true. The last paragraph is true also a good to know fact. o_O

Cerebral wrote: Ok..... I see "atoms and dna" and expect at least something remotely related to the two..... Lets try this: has anyone here ever taken Organic Chemistry? My personal experience is that I found General Chemistry far more enjoyable because I enjoyed the calculations and associated experiments. It also laid the ground work for my field of employment. Organic, on the other hand, goes in a completely different direction where calculations are almost abandoned entirely. The focus instead is on memorization of structures and "themes". Your take, anyone? :) MS reply to you is the correct answer to your question.

There is a growing body of evidence that persistent low-level harassment affects the health and wellbeing of people subjected to it. > A global phenomenon There is no continent which is free of racial violence. Racial violence has been the trade-mark of racism throughout history. In the Americas and Caribbean, the Colombian legacy of dispossession, massacres, violence and near annihilation of the native peoples, and the brutal slave trade have left lasting effects on marginalised communities of that area. The slave trade, imperialism and colonialism, and more recently apartheid, were systematic and legalised forms of racism which used brutal force and violence against Africans, Asians and Indigenous Peoples, including Dalits, Gypsies and travelling people. Violence against these people has excluded them from social, political, cultural, economic and educational benefits because of their colour, caste, descent. In India, the so called "pollution line" still divides Dalits from other castes in spite the abolition of the practice of untouchability fifty years ago. Today, beatings, rape and murder of Dalits still happen. Just adding onto this post. Violence which stems from racism affects everybody worldwide. There are preventative steps to stopping this starting from the individual. Racial violence in communities affect/influenced youth the most.

Once this is done then you will figure out the rest. It makes sense to me. If I did all the thinking for you then that would only mean you are the one who is stupid. Again no offence. Yep they also refer to the brain as grey matter between the ears :-D

So if stereotypung is ingrained in an individual frim childhood then its harder to get that individual to belive a truth of facts about race or self identity.

People need to wake up think how racism affects the next gen or their own children.

Intellect wrote: PART THREE: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RACIAL VIOLENCE & OTHER FORMS OF VIOLENCE.... Racial violence differs from other forms of violence in that the root causes are to do with assumption of superiority and dislike of other people who are deemed to be inferior because of their identity, ethnic origin, nationality, national origins or descent; and because of their appearance and physical characteristics such as colour, language and dress. These are natural and normal attributes, and any attack on them is an attack of the very core of ones essence as a human being and as a member of the human race. Racial violence manifests itself in many ways. In its mildest form, it can be pushing, spitting, name-calling, teasing, or practical jokes. In more serious cases it involves physical assault, arson, stabbing, rape, murder, attempted murder, massacres and genocide. There is no continent which is free of racial violence. Racial violence has been the trade-mark of racism throughout history. If no one can see how racism contributes to violence or other than they must be as dumb as a peanut....IQ must be below 0 & on par with a door knob smh.

OK Im guessing ppl are grid locked in their mind about racism. To the point of not knowing the difference between racism vs non racism... The difference is this racism operates on the physical. Racism is not normal because everyone has their own look. It sounds illogical to be chinese & want to look like an anglo saxon or an african or polynesian, middle eastern or ET - Or vice versa. If we check out the animal kingdom you dont see a chicken plucking its feathers in exchange for fur to become a monkey or vice versa. You wont see a tiger beating up a bear because it is jealous of its strength or height. Nope they are completely at peace with themselves. SO therefore Racist = Elimination of self - Retarded or mentally ill. VS Non racist = self awareness - Conscious & intellectually stable.

Intellect wrote: POSITIVE STEPS AGAINST RACIAL DISCRIMINATION Learn About Community Efforts to Improve Race Relations In communities across the world, people are working to improve race relations through discussion groups, cultural exchanges, education programs, and other activities. Use your library or other community resource to find the names of groups that are working on such projects in your community. Interview someone from the organization about their work. Suggested questions: What are the goals of your work? What activities do you carry out to reach these goals? Who is involved in your work? What kind of impact has the group had? How can young people become involved? ~ Conclusion ~ Very interesting
