But when First Lady Michelle Obama met celebrity chef Paula Deen she apparently ate like a horse! Paula is not from the minimalistic school of cooking and is known for recipes like Gooey Butter Cake. The TV star told the Washington Examiner that she and Michelle had more in common than you might expect. She said:'I did a show with Michelle and I just loved being with her. 'She probably ate more than any other guest I've ever had on the show. 'She kept eating even during commercials.' After complimenting Michelle on her slim figure, Paula taught her how to fry shrimp during a TV segment in September 2008, shortly before the presidential election. Paula said:'You know what their favorite foods are — it's hot wings, you know, those kinds of foods that are not necessarily top-of-the-list healthy foods, so she's no different than the rest of us." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-20479... What was the point of this? Don't people go on cooking shows to cook and eat??? And Michelle is promoting healthy weight as well as healthy eating. She obviously follows this as she isn't fat (like paula). Although some try to make her out to be this fat woman..she is not. She is shapely and very much in shape as been proven by her recently on a couple of different shows. It seems some people don't understand that life works off of balance. Just because someone is promoting healthy eating doesn't mean they have to eat broccoli every minute of the day..It means they need to eat healthy the majority of the time..BALANCE their life. Not eating isn't a balanced life..Being skinny as a rail is not only unattractive but extremely unhealthy and a sign of an out of control person. I applaud Michelle as it takes much more work to keep a beautiful curvaceous figure than anything else. Paula needs to quit taking cheap digs and be GRATEFUL that the first lady would even show up for her show.

Yeah I like Dolly she's from when WW had class.... even though she dresses weird lol. But you're right it's the people who chooses and again they chose Whitney's version. Dolly was very gracious but then again she made millions off of owning the rights to the song.

Sure she's losing weight now and she has a weird build to begin with but no less- she's fat. If that was a bw cooking like that and looking like Paula she would have been mocked relentlessly. Paula is fat and she should be ashamed of herself for taking jabs at the first lady who took time out of her day to show up for cooking show.

In an interview with UK music magazine Q, Dolly Parton said she "was blown away" by Whitney's version. She said: "The way she took that simple song of mine and made it such a mighty thing, it almost became her song. Some writers say,'Ooh, I hate the way they've done that to my song or that version wasn't what I had in mind.' I just think it's wonderful that people can take a song and do it so many different ways." And you seem to care when the credit due to Dolly is given. Had she not have written that song, there would have been no song for Whitney to record. I can guarantee it the situation were reversed, you all would be screaming bloody murder that "we" stole it from you all. So, why are you all so threatened when Dolly is mentioned would be my question. She wrote it and she deserves every penny she makes. Then again, she made plenty of money in her own right and in writing her own songs, her movies, etc. I would say that people should be thanking Dolly in that the song's popularity is due to Dolly's creativity and why she's the legend that she has been for her entire career and not due to one song someone else wrote, recorded twice previously in making it to a #1 spot and crossing over to a #53 spot as was stated. Parton's song was recorded by Whitney when she was at her peak and never again had a success like she did w/Parton's song. It indeed shows why Dolly is a legend in that the song has been timeless and everytime it's recorded, it takes off. Plain and simply, I believe in giving the artist who created the song or what have you in that it's wrong that the creative talent is hardly an afterthought. She should have been given full due but as people have repeatedly stated, Whitney made it hers and I call that stealing. But Parton is far kinder than I but indeed, she's a shrewd business woman in that hardly would she have allowed her work to have been used without gaining a profit.

YOU KNEW it was Whitney's song because the world wanted to hear her singing it again and again. Wrong. Whitney wasn't the first time to record it and twice it hit #1 when Parton recorded it and she being the first artist to ever accomplish what she did. And by far, "The best little whore house in Texas" was far more popular than, "The bodyguard". In essence, I would say that by the time Houston recorded it, it was a matter of, "been there, done that". Whitney was got lucky and had it not have been for Dolly's song, she would never have received the acclaim when her career was at it's peak and never had done so since. Whitney had a good 10years where Parton has been a legend her entire career in writing her own music and other ventures. Or maybe you don't know much about her. Kevin Costner is who people wanted to see in that movie and not Houston. Perhaps, you should remember who the real talent is and who creates their own work. The true artists are the one who write their own music, record it and not doing covers/making it appear that it's success is due to their own creativity. Parton was the creative artist behind the song and not Houston. Who had 10years at best where Parton is still going strong in that's the mark of a legend and an icon.

I never denied that Dolly deserved credit as a songwriter not in one post of mine, did I say such a thing. It is people here who are bashing Whitney for covering the song, including yourself when you mentioned how your husband felt that the Whitney Houston's cover was a travesty to the original.

I don't sit down and gorge myself on ribs and then attempt to dictate that people eat healthy. As I've said often, those who aren't "thick" or have any desire to be so are the ones who are the target of the obnoxious comments. Michelle showed up alright and ate like a "horse". Not my words the last time I checked.

Adds: And maybe the reason women appear to be "skinny as a rail" is due to the number of obese individuals that provide the stark contrast. I can guarantee that those there are more "thick" individuals with health issues such as diabetes, etc. than there are "skinny as a rail" individuals who understand the concept of control and respecting their bodies. Those with a weight problem are the ones working at it and due to they having zero concept of what is healthy and having a little control over what goes into their bodies. "Skinny as a rail" isn't gorging one's self and then saying, "I'm thick". It's called "obese" and you can't turn a pig's ear into a silk purse. Plain and simple.
