Africa: China wants to help, Whites don't

Ironically, despite the fact that Nigeria has abundant oil to earn dollar export revenue to build its domestic infrastructure, government policy has deliberately let its domestic oil refining capacity fall into ruin. The consequence has been that most of the gasoline and other refined petroleum products used to drive transportation and industry, has to be imported, despite the country’s abundant oil. In order to shield the population from the high import costs of gasoline and other refined fuels, the central government has subsidized prices.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (CSCEC) signed the deal to build three oil refineries with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in the biggest deal China has made with Africa. Shehu Ladan, head of NNPC, said at the signing ceremony that the added refineries would reduce the $10 billion spent annually on imported refined products.

Until now Nigeria has held some 79% of her foreign currency reserves in dollars, the rest in Euro or Sterling, all of which look dicey given their financial and debt problems. The move of a major oil producer away from dollars, added to similar moves recently by India, Japan, Russia, Iran and others, augurs bad news for the continued role of the dollar as dominant world reserve currency. 22 Clearly some in Washington would not be happy with that.

The Chinese are also bidding to get a direct stake in Nigeria’s rich oil reserves, until now an Anglo-American domain. In July 2010, China's CNPC (China National Petroleum Corporation) won four prospective oil blocks -two in the Niger Delta and two in the frontier Chad Basin, with plans to become core investor in the Kaduna refinery, and construction of a double track Lagos-Kano railway.23 As well China’s oil company, CNOOC Ltd has a major offshore production area in Nigeria.

The IMF and Washington pressure to lift subsidies on imported fuels is at this point in question as is the future of China in Nigeria’s energy industry. Clear is that lifting subsidies in no way will benefit Nigerians. More alarming in this context is the orchestration of a major new wave of terror killings and bombings by the mysterious and suspiciously well-armed Boko Haram. This we will look at next in the context of Nigeria’s recent transformation into a major narcotics hub.

China needs a strong, reliable and independent Africa. They do not need or want colonies. In order for Africa to deliver the resources that China needs, China will support our efforts to make Africa strong against the western imperialists.

Good post Jahx. I been reading on this and my thoughts are that China obviously sees the viability of African countries in the next ten to twenty years. Especially Nigeria in particular, the only problem is the worst enemy for the Nigerian Government is really theirselves.

Nobody can help Nigeria until the Nigerians have a major attitude adjustment. But, China has been very helpful especially in Zimbabwe and Sudan. I would like to see the Chinese come closer to the Convention People's Party, especially in our North America branch. I have proposals that will benefit China as well as benefit thre local blacks. Sooner or later, we will end up working closely with the Chinese. The sooner the better.

I used to believe that China helping Africa is a bad thing. But then I learned to respect their policies abroad because its the smart thing to do both foreign and domestic. I think Ghana is a good place for the USA to build good economic ties. Like you said Nigerians have to change their attitude and I believe at the moment Ghana has one of the best attitudes in west Africa.

I fully agree. Ghana led Africa to independence. Now, I think Ghana has more educated citizens than any other country in Africa. Although corruption has spilled over the border from Nigeria into Ghana, Ghana is leading Africa towards cleaning up corruption.

Jerry Rawlings' NDC party tried to claim Nkrumah's legacy. But in order to form a majority in the last election, they had to make a deal with People National Convention which is in negotiations with my Convention People's Party to merge and form one Party. Their deal gave them PNC's leader as Vice President. Now that Mills is dead, PNC has taken the presidency. Therefore, my CPP is effectively negotiating a share in power of the next government. But, there is a very real possibility that my CPP will gain so much support in this election that we will either lead the next government or be in a position to pretty much dictate insignificant policy. In a word, this is a return of Nkrumahism to power in Ghana. This places Ghana is a leadership position alongside Zimabwe for the Unifcation of Africa. Things will never be the same again.

For example, I expect that Ghana and Zimbabwe will form the core of a United Africa in a matter of months, not years. Indeed, this is what I am pushing for.

While he was there, he forget to take $1 billion back to China. A couple weeks later, he sent another $10 billion to Zimbabwe. Obama's $78 million is not even 1% of China's over $10 billion in Zimbabwe. Numbers do not lie, fool.

Oh. One other little detail I forgot to mention. France still has colones in Africa. Ever hear of São Tomé and Príncipe? What about Mayotte? What about Reunion? If you are serious which I doubt, we already have a credit union project underway that will reach all across the country. As far as I know, I am the ONLY one with this capability. Contact me and we can work together.

Also, I have the capability to arrange some very lucrative investment opportunities all across Africa for those who are interested. I will check Securities and Exchange Commission to be sure. But the projects I have do not require any USA government supervision, except the credit union must comply with federal law and regulations. We will comply and meet all government oversight requirements. I work on this almost every day. I need help to get this thing moving faster.

I have decided to sign our credit union project up with Community Develoment credit Unions.(http://www.cdcu.coop/i4a/pages/index.cfm... ) This is to meet the unique needs of the average African community. The more i work on this, the better it looks and the better I see how to make this do what I want it to do and what the people need it to do.
