My sincerest sympathies to the families of the loved ones lost.

However, snowmobiles, atvs, and jetskis were originally invented for RESCUE purposes ONLY. Unfortunately when these companies decided to sell these vehicles to the public, they opened a Pandora's box that can't be closed now.
There is nothing worse than being in an accident on an open vehicle, whether or
not alcohol or drugs are involved. Even in racing (like NASCAR) you have rollbars,
and other protective coverings and restraints to protect the driver/passenger. There is NO SUCH PROTECTION on these type vehicles. If you have an accident on one of these, especially if you are going at a high rate of speed, it almost always ends up in death or permanent disability. I personally think these vehicles should be outlawed to the general public. Unfortunately, it's like driving a motorcycle. But at least motorcycles have to abide by rules of the road and drive on roads. These people use these vehicles wherever they want to use them and with snowmobiles, going at a high rate of speed, the snow covers obstacles such as boulders, tree stumps and other objects. If the snowmobile hits these hidden obstacles at a high rate of speed, the passengers most likely are thrown from the vehicle or the vehicle ends up falling on the drivers/passengers most of the time resulting in death. When are people going to realize that maybe they need to practice the same thing we do with drinking and driving a car, take the keys from them!! Friends don't let friends drive drunk, no matter what kind of vehicle it is! Having an accident on a snowmobile or ATV is worse than having an accident in a car, at least you have air bags and some kind of shell around you, and hopefully wearing a seatbelt. What kind of protection do you have on a snowmobile or ATV?? NONE! Think about it. How many more people are going to die in 2010 because of these dangerous vehicles?? Your children? Your best friends? Parents? It's time to "take the keys away" when you know they've been drinking. PLEASE!!

First of all, my deepest sympathy to the family. Second, I don't condone drinking alcohol and driving any sort of vehicle. I have a family member who was killed as a result of someone else driving while drunk. It something you never get over.

However, I think the government is in our business enough already. People make choices in life and assume the risks. Unfortunately, people get hurt and some even die. It's been happening since the beginning of time and will continue. But, it sucks.

There will always be reckless people in this world, but there are just as many responsible ones. And accidents happen. Living life is all about choices.

The government, as of this new year can fine restaurants for allowing to much trans-fat into the food they serve the public. It's getting absurd with the new laws that are enacted to protect us from ourselves. We are losing our liberty (freedom to choose) at an alarming rate.

If you see someone doing illegal things with these vehicles, report them to the police. At least you will feel you've done the right thing, and not feel so powerless. And if you and your family are against these type of recreational vehicles, then don't go near them.
