Pownal asked to control ATV use

Full story: Bennington Banner

A forester with the Vermont Land Trust, Pieter van Loon, met with the Pownal Select Board Thursday to discuss the use of all-terrain vehicles on the town's former tannery forestland -- property concerning which the town signed a conservation easement with the VLT in 2002.

To expect any cooperation what so ever from ATV users is a joke. These people are for the most part going to ride their stupid machines on anyones property and could care less. The best way to keep them off your property is to place boards with nails just under the surface. After these slack jawed morons get enough flat tires maybe one of them might be able to figure it out providing the one doing the thinking has a double digit I.Q. because the rest are even more stupid.

The town land in North Pownal does not have any real public entrance. The atv's go thru privte lands to get on it. therfore you can't ask for any more policing of the land. It is hard to get permision to go thru these lands. if you want a group of people to police the land. I say ask the people who are doing it now, They are doing a good job of doing it. O bye the way most of the trails are only wide as a wheeler now and thats only what we keep open. the main trails!

Half the time they're on the public paved roads. The parents? Usually, nowhere around.

WOW Mr. Samples, lots of anger and untruths there! As a member of local and state ATV clubs I differ with your opinion. We only ride where we have written permission,we are insured and registered. Most of us are CPR and first aid trained and have given our contact information to local police and fire departments in case of search and rescue.Maybe you should not judge the whole by a few.
