San Diego Chargers outside linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested Sunday and accused of choking and restraining his girlfriend, reality TV star Tila Tequila, as she tried to leave his home.

As expected, undrafted rookie Diyral Briggs made it through waivers this afternoon and was promptly added to the 49ers' practice squad.

They are: OT Alex Boone, WR Dobson Collins, TE J.J. Finley, FB Brit Miller, NT Khalif Mitchell, RB Kory Sheets and WR Dominique Zeigler.

The three were among 20 players cut Saturday as the team trimmed from 73 to 53 a day after finishing the preseason with a 26-7 loss at San Diego.

In the category of Life's Funny That Way, the 49ers lost a wide receiver a day after their unsigned rookie receiver threatened by proxy to sit out the 2009 season if his contract demands are not met.

Wide receiver Brandon Jones will be out for eight weeks with a fractured right shoulder, according to the 49ers official Twitter page .
