The Great British Bake Off - European cake week

I was really impressed with how both the cakes looked and tasted so I'm pretty certain I would have been a shoe-in for the next round if I was in the tent! When I saw what the contestants would be making on The Great British Bake Off last week I was so excited. I had a slice of princess torte from a lovely bakery in Greenwich about three years ago and I still have regular dreams about how good it was.

Let them throw cake: Toronto four-piece host punk party for record release show

Friday night's Ooohh Baby Gimme Mores' album release party had pretty much everything you could want in a punk show: spirited chants of "O-B-G-Ms" before the band appeared, audience participation antics from song 1, a few tambourines, lots of crowd-surfing , a male fan twerking onstage, another guy rushing bassist Joe Brosnan and kissing him before diving into the crowd, and so much sweat that drummer Colanthony Humphrey and keys/synths player Jemuel Roberts eventually went shirtless. All the while, the Toronto four-piece cranked out boisterous dance-punk-meets-garage with enough melody to nod at mid-00s British indie-rock acts like the Arctic Monkeys.

A key historic building was serenaded with a chorus of "Happy Birthday" by hundreds of people last weekend as crowds came out in style to mark its 700th anniversary. One of Britain's oldest surviving water mills, Hebden Bridge Mill, Bridge Gate, was the centre of the town's celebrations, as people danced and sang to music from Hebden Bridge Junior Band and later the jazzy Peace Artistes.
