This country has gone to the other side of the spectrum in indulging children. People are so concerned with protecting childrens' "self esteem" instead of teaching them discipline, manners, and respect towards others. It's time we find a happy medium. This is an example of lax parenting and lax leadership.

I don't understand why the Sun-Sentinel won't identify the vandals. This would be an additional deterent to people commiting crimes and getting off lightly because of their age. Age should not be a major consideration when we are dealing with people who flaunt the law.

These two felons are headed to middle school next...I see tight jeans, midriff shirts, hoop earrings, black eye liner and two, maybe three babies (each) by the time they reach high school (if they don't drop out 1st so my tax dollars can pay for their groceries/bills)...THE PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE....who was watching what these kids were up to both Sat. and Sunday??? Probably sitting out in the front porch with a 40...

Baa Baa Booey, you are an idiot. Whether you are black, white, or green. Because I think there is a chance that you are black and just race bating us. It won't work. I don't classify you as white...I only classify you as stupid.

They should stop protecting these "children" and release all information about them.

Boy am I glad I am not a teacher any more. After 14 years of teaching in Palm Beach County, I decided to take a break until law and order is re-established in our schools. I predict education will continue to plummet until this happens. Don't fall for the lie that FCAT scores are up. All they do is lower the bar in order to fool the public.

The next time any of you think a teacher is paid too much, think about this article. THESE are the kids we are dealing with all day in classroom. This is always why we need the police officers assigned to our schools.

Most of us are good at what we do and have control of the students in our rooms, but it's not easy to maintain that and it takes a toll after a while. There have been times when 90% of my class of elementary school students were like these girls.

There was also an incident similar to this one at my school, where students did major damage and even defecated all over and smeared it. The parents were not made to pay damages.

The general public, who have no real dealings with the schools, really have no clue what teachers, administrators, and staff deal with on a daily basis.

Our 'summer' is almost over and I'm re-energized and ready to tackle a new year, a new group of kids, and the new challenges. I just wish more people respected the job I do and not claim I have it 'easy'.

Your idea is good except for one thing.....they need to be made to go and clean up their mess first. They need to scrub the paint from the toilet, they need to clean up the floors and repaint the walls. The parents need to pay for the damaged computers and other equipment/furniture. Then and only then will they learn a lesson here. If a child is made to clean up their mess, they won't continue to make a mess.
Then.........send them home to their parents after the parents complete proper parenting classes. Who does not know where their 10 and 12 year-olds are for three hours?
I blame the parents!
I guess they were mad because they were not able to attend the 5th grade going away dance/pizza party in the cafeteria the last week of school.

I know you are a teacher (or were one) at Horizon Elementary. I remember that incident too out in the modular classrooms.
