An Irvine-based doctor has lost his medical license for allegedly over-prescribing medication to a depressed patient a month before the patient died of an overdose.

Darvocet is an analgesic medication used to relieve pain. Darvocet is commonly prescribed as part of a treatment regimen to manage arthritis pain and other painful conditions.

More than 100 lawsuits filed by people from throughout the country - who claim they or their loved ones have been hurt by the pain relievers Darvon and Darvocet and other drugs containing propoxyphene - have poured into the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Kentucky since August.

The Propoxyphene Multi District Litigation is based in Kentucky and was recently established.
