They're icky and annoying to nix, but because head lice don't pose a health danger, some schools in the Berkshires over the past several years have followed national health organizations' suggestion to abandon mandates that ask parents to pull children with lice from the classroom.

Hopewell Avenue Public School is asking parents to use a more powerful brand of lice elimination in the midst of an outbreak at the school.

Blacklegged ticks take two years to complete their life cycle and are found predominately in deciduous forest.

It's not up to the school and health department to catch the problem. It's also the parent's or guardian's to take care of it if a child or adult gets lice.
