Flanked with support, a domestic violence assault victim addressed the court during her former partner's sentencing hearing April 17, saying she opposed the recommended sentence, calling it too lenient for the physical and mental abuse she suffered at the hands of the defendant. Eldon Bennett, 31, of Rockport pleaded no contest to a felony domestic violence assault charge, three felony violation of conditions of release, criminal operating under the influence, and operating without a license stemming from a November 2014 night of drinking. A Maine woman who killed her 2A1 2-year-old daughter nearly two years ago will be sentenced Wednesday at the Penobscot Judicial Center. The defense team is expected to urge the judge to impose a much lesser sentence, closer to the 25-year-mandatory minimum. Comment?

A 41-year-old Rockport man accused of driving into and killing a pedestrian in January and then leaving the scene without stopping is back behind bars less than a week after he was freed on bail. Jeremy S. Stone was arrested Wednesday night, a day after his ex-wife withdrew the $2,500 cash bail she had posted on March 25 to get him released from jail. Comment?
