Manhattan: You should have a weekly column called "Ask Bratton," where one of our top public servants answers tough questions from the people he serves. Start with this one: Dear police commissioner, knowing how the NYPD helicopters create severe noise and air pollution, are unbelievably expensive to run and scare many civilians, and that you are risking our lives every time your department flies over populated areas, because helicopters crash fairly regularly, could you explain why you are unable to patrol any political marches in NYC without them? We have to conclude that all those choppers are just macho, muscle-flexing police state posturing. Comment?

The number of car thefts in Forest Hills skyrocketed by 80 percent since last year, fueled in part by a recent spike, police officials said this week. Seventeen cars were stolen in the 112th Precinct, which covers Forest Hills and Rego Park, in the 28-day period ending Nov. 9, said Capt. Comment?
