Mount Prospect police on Thursday said that recent arrests of self-admitted gang members do not indicate that gang activity is on the rise in town. Police arrested three people over the weekend on weapons charges in two separate occurrences, including a shooting in which no one was injured. Comment?

A teenage gang member was caught with a defaced handgun Sunday after running away from police in Mount Prospect, authorities claim. A Mount Prospect officer was near Cottonwood Lane and Linneman Road at 12:52 a.m. Sunday when he saw two males acting suspiciously, police said. Comment?

Mount Prospect police charged two men with recklessly discharging a firearm and aggravated unlawful discharge of a weapon following a report of shots fired about 8:46 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Canford Cliffs Road, police said. Officers responded to witnesses who reported seeing two men run through the parking lot and enter a silver vehicle immediately after the gun shots, police said. Comment?

A 22-year-old native of Yugoslavia and a 17-year-old have been charged in a shooting last week in Mount Prospect that prosecutors characterize as an attempt to rob participants in a drug buy. Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo on Wednesday set bail at $200,000 for Edham Salkic, of the 1200 block of Boxwood Drive in Mount Prospect, who was charged with attempted murder, attempted armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm. A man was ordered held on a $200,000 bond Monday after prosecutors claimed he and a teenage boy first tried to rob, then to murder two men in northwest suburban Mount Prospect. Edham Salkic, 22; and the 17-year-old are each charged with various counts of attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of cannabis, Mount Prospect police said in a statement.
