The city of Manhattan Beach paid $175,000 to settle the lawsuit brought by the man caught in a Manhattan Beach Police sex sting while helping a disabled child in 2012, according to a copy of the settlement released in response to a public records request. The city of Manhattan Beach will pay an Eagle Scout $175,000 for wrongfully arresting him during a police sex sting operation targeting gay men in a beach bathroom in 2012. A state appellate court panel today rejected an appeal from a man who slashed a clerk's throat, stabbed him and tried to strangle him with a wire during a robbery at a Manhattan Beach cigar store. The three-justice panel from California's 2nd District Court of Appeal rejected the defense's contention that there was no substantial evidence to support Tyler Lee Rodgers' conviction on one of the counts - kidnapping to commit a robbery - stemming from the Aug. 16, 2012, attack on Naveed Mirza at The Cigar and Smoke Shop. A traffic stop today in Manhattan Beach led to the discovery of three residential burglary suspects and the recovery of items stolen locally and from Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach police reported. Police allege the threesome had just committed a home burglary in the 1500 block of 10th Street, according to the release. Comment?
