Mira Costa High School students were welcomed back to campus today with backpack searches and other heightened security measures after a two-day closure triggered by social media threats. In an email to parents and students late Tuesday, Principal Ben Dale said it will take another day to put together a plan to keep students safe, including details on exits and entry, what students can bring to school, increased security and police presence and counseling. A Manhattan Beach man charged earlier this year with engaging in unlawful sex acts with a minor was sentenced Monday to a year in jail and ordered to register as a sex offender for life. Trent Corbet Kelly, 44, was sentenced in Torrance Superior Court following his guilty plea to counts of felony child abuse and sending harmful matter to two victims, District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani said.
