When local authorities and deputy U.S. marshals came calling, all but five of Richmond County's 118 registered sex offenders were at home. The county sheriff's office conducted a compliance check Friday and Saturday with help from the U.S. Marshals Service, the local marshals' Joint Fugitive Task Force and the N.C. Department of Public Safety's probation and parole division. Comment?

A retired Davidson County School teacher is accused of sexually abusing a middle school boy in the early 1980s and now faces charges for crimes allegedly committed at Ledford Middle School. Thomas Tilman Cridlebaugh, 71, of West Lexington Avenue in High Point was arrested at his residence last Wednesday. Comment?
