The Department of Justice filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of North Carolina today seeking the arrest and extradition of a former colonel in the Salvadoran army to face charges in Spain related to the murder of five Spanish Jesuit priests in El Salvador in 1989. Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the Justice Department's Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Thomas G. Walker of the Eastern District of North Carolina made the announcement. Rigoberto Escobar, 26, is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, April 6 in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn on charges of first degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and possession of ammunition Escobar was charged Jan. 18 with killing Magno Sosa, 32, of Nantucket, chasing him down the street and then shooting him after an argument. Sosa, who came to the island from El Salvador when he was 14, was killed following an argument with another man over a soccer game, family members said. Comment?

Frank-Mario Norris-Agosto , of 48 Blue Hill Ave., Roxbury, was arrested at 4:46 p.m. at Amerige Park at 1 Savin St., charged with possession with intent to distribute class B drugs, trafficking class A drugs, trafficking class B drugs, and committing a drug violation within 100 feet of a playground. Scott Sears, no address released, was arrested at 9:55 a.m. at Malden City Hall at 200 Pleasant St. charged with trespassing. Comment?

Police arriving at the scene of a reported rape in Everett thought they had a homicide on their hands, because the young woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted and abandoned on a driveway overnight after an underage party barely survived frigid 10-degree weather, a prosecutor said yesterday. Middlesex Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Dunigan said Sami Sherif, 18, of Everett left a neighborhood party on March 7 with the drunk 18-year-old woman and came back without her. Comment?

An 18-year-old Everett man charged with raping a young woman after an underage drinking party returned to the festivities after the sexual assault, a prosecutor said today in Malden District Court. Middlesex prosecutor Elizabeth Dunigan told the court Sami Sherif left the neighborhood party with the young woman and then returned to it, leaving his drunk victim on the street where she was found hours later on a driveway on Appleton Street March 7.
