  • Evaro man denies charges of assault on peace officer

    A 42-year-old Evaro man who was shot by a Missoula County sheriff's deputy early on New Year's Day has denied charges alleging he drove his car at deputies, prompting the shooting. Eugene Albert Statelen pleaded not guilty Tuesday to three counts of assault on a peace officer and a misdemeanor count of tampering with a communications device.

    The man charged in the New Year's Eve shooting involving a Missoula County Sheriff's Deputy pleads not guilty to two misdemeanors and three felonies, including obstructing a peace officer and assault with a weapon. Court documents show Statelen was shot in the arm and shoulder late New Year's Eve, after he attempted to run-over a sheriff's deputy with his car.
