A man and woman from Iowa who were wanted in Iowa for a variety of alleged crimes were arrested by Cranston Police on Friday after officers responded to a 911 call for a domestic disturbance. Police said they were dispatched to Budlong Manor apartments on Arthur Street at around 1:38 a.m. and found a woman hiding in a bedroom closet. Comment?

Rhode Island State Police and local police say a Cranston officer fired his service weapon when he was struck by a motor vehicle operated by a suspect trying to flee arrest on drug charges. The Pawtucket Times reported that Cranston Police Chief Michael J. Winquist says the unidentified Cranston officer was struck Saturday by the vehicle and had minor injuries. Comment?

A woman who was arrested Saturday in Cranston and accused of almost running over a police officer, prompting him to open fire, has been identified as Alicia Mattera, 36, of Central Falls, R.I., according to Cranston police. Cranston police Chief Michael Winquist said a Cranston officer in uniform, who has not been identified, found Mattera participating in what appeared to be a drug deal in the parking lot of Hong Kong Buffet on Cranston Street around 3:53 pm. NBC 10 was first on the scene Saturday afternoon when Cranston Police crews were dispatched to a Cranston Street restaurant after multiple calls came in for shots fired shortly before 4:00 p.m. In a press release sent to NBC 10, Cranston Police Col. Michael Winquist says that the officer who was involved noticed suspicious activity outside the Hong Kong Buffet Restaurant on Cranston Street. Comment?

A 36-year-old Central Falls woman who struck and dragged a Cranston Police officer with her car behind Hong Kong Buffet on Cranston Street Saturday afternoon is facing a slew of charges including drug possession and felony assault. The officer was not seriously hurt, but the situation could have been much worse since the officer's was briefly trapped between the woman's car door and door frame as she shifted into reverse in an attempt to get away, said Cranston Police Chief Col. Comment?

A 23-year-old Maine man is facing charges of felony assault for allegedly pointing a pellet gun at a firefighter in a Cranston ambulance on New Year's Eve. Warwick Police arrested Jose A. Vargas, 23, for allegedly pointing the gun at the ambulance at the intersection of Route 2 and East Avenue at around 10:30 p.m., police said. Comment?

A 31-year-old Providence man who Cranston Police once identified as a "notorious Bloods gang member with ties to New Jersey" pleaded guilty last week in Providence County Superior Court for his role in three armed robberies in Providence and Cranston in 2013. In exchange for his plea, Lovett was sentenced to 50 years with 24 to serve for three counts of first degree robbery, three counts of possession of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, two counts of conspiracy, one count of possessing a firearm without a license and one count of possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence. Comment?
