Shortly after 4 a.m. Carlsbad police responded to a report of an assault at Tamarack Avenue and Jefferson Street where one man, wearing a bandanna over his face, approached the driver of a car and threatened him with a knife. The second suspect than swung a baseball bat striking the car on the passenger side, police said. Comment?

A man suspected of burglarizing a motel room in Carlsbad Monday morning took employees at another motel hostage at knifepoint before finally surrendering and asking cops to shoot him, police said. The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Abraham Ledesma-Gomez from San Diego. Comment?

A $5,000 reward was offered Thursday for information leading to the arrest of a burglar who stole about $100,000 worth of luxury watches, jewelry and art from a Carlsbad home. It happened in the 2600 block of Acuna Court sometime between 5:30 p.m. Dec. 12 and 9 a.m. Dec. 13, according to the San Diego County Crime Stoppers. Comment?

Carlsbad police are investigating the burglary at a home on Acuna Court, near El Fuerte Street, that occurred sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 and 9 a.m. on Dec. 13. About $100,000 worth of items were taken, including several luxury watches, jewelry and a bronze horse sculpture on a wood base that was part of a set, Crime Stoppers said in a statement. The other statue was not taken. Comment?
