Spending on public works up 50% this year

The trend is expected to continue next year, when the government budget calls for an additional 12% increase in public works spending.

Wyndham Hotel Group Signs Deal for First Wyndham Resort in Costa Rica

Wyndham Hotel Group, the world's largest hotel company with approximately 7,540 hotels and part of Wyndham Worldwide Corporation , today announced the signing of a franchise agreement for the first resort in Costa Rica to fly the upscale Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand flag, the Wyndham Papagayo Yu Resort in Guanacaste. The 151-room property, owned by ASECCSS, is currently under development in one of the most popular vacation destinations in Latin America and is scheduled to open by the end of 2015.

First half of the year showed positive growth in tourist arrivals

September 11th, 2014 Costa Rica recorded 1,391,617 tourist arrivals in the first six months of this year, an increase of 5.4% compared to the same period last year, according to data provided by the General Directorate of Immigration and analyzed by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute . The United States accounted for the largest number of international arrivals followed by Central America and Europe .

400-kilo Drug Bust at the Hilton Ranch in Costa Rica

According to intelligence and law enforcement officials in the beleaguered Central American country, agents of the Costa Rica Federal Judicial Investigation Organization seized a single-engine Cessna that was idling on the runway as it was being loaded with 400 kilos of cocaine. Inside the cockpit police made an unexpected discovery: almost $2 million in cash in notes of various denominations stuffed in plastic bags.
