About 200 Shaw employees to lose jobs

Approximately 200 people will lose their jobs at Shaw Industries Plant WK in Tifton in the next four weeks after the company decided to reduce its workforce primarily because of the downturn in the housing industry.

Tifton police investigate armed robbery

Police are investigating the Thursday armed robbery of a convenience store, shots fired in a mobile home park and an incident at a convenience store that ended with a man being arrested on weapon-related charges.

School board approves purchase of new buses

The Tift County Board of Education approved Tuesday the purchase of 11 buses at a cost of $801,410. The new buys will replace older buses, some of which are 15 years old.

County working on acquisition funding for McInnis Mills

The Tift County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a backup system for E-911 and heard a report from its Emergency Management Agency director that the county is completing applications to hopefully receive acquisition funding for 12 lots in McInnis Mills that were damaged during flooding earlier this year.
