Franklin man charged in robberies

Maj. Gene H. Drewery, Chief Deputy for the Southampton County Sheriff's Office, Travis J. Files, 27, is accused of robbing the Sunoco located in the 28000 block of Southampton Parkway around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night.

The Southampton County Sheriff's Office has located a man who reportedly ran from deputies when they recognized him as a wanted man Tuesday afternoon.

Escaped inmate back in custody

Southampton County Sheriff's deputies found 47-year-old Sherman Hix hiding in a farm vehicle off Pope Station Road around 9:15 Sunday morning, according to Major Gene Drewery of the Southampton County Sheriff's office.

Deputies search for escaped inmate

A spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff's office tells WAVY.com that Sherman Charles Hix was let out of his cell just after 5 a.m. to work, when he escaped out the back of the kitchen.
