Fire leaves 100's without power,phones

By Jim Tuttle Smithfield Times Staff Writer Around 2,800 phone lines were affected and about 900 customers lost electricity in Isle of Wight and surrounding areas when a Verizon switching office in Windsor caught fire Tuesday.

Thunderstorm watch issued for N.C. and Hampton Roads

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina until 10 p.m. The National Weather Service warned that wind gusts of up to 30 mph were possible ahead of and behind a cold front moving into the area today.
