Panther Creek schools have closed for the remainder of the week after about one-third of the students have stayed home sick.

Shawn Regan, a medical technologist at North Runnels Hospital in Winters, runs a series of tests on blood samples drawn from patients Tuesday.

A Winters man has been arrested and charged with several offenses, including aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Clifton O'Neal Poe, 79, of Winters, Texas, passed away October 8, 2009. He was born in Runnels County on August 29, 1930 to Rebecca B. and Fred C. Poe.

According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, the nation is projected to produce 13.4 million bales of cotton this year.
