Gondor, Resh seek 'actual innocence' ruling in civil trial

Attorneys for two Portage County men first convicted, then cleared of a 1988 murder, grilled the lead detective on the case on Tuesday during testimony in a civil trial to determine if their clients should be awarded monetary damages for spending 17 years behind bars for a crime they didn't commit.

Kappa Sigma brothers, jail inmates team up to clean up

Members of the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Kent State University had a busy weekend recently helping the residents of Portage County, spending the day walking to raise funds for cancer research and later teaming with the Portage County Sheriff's Office inmate work detail to cut trees and clean debris for the Portage County park system.

Resume, cover letter class sign-ups due

The Windham Branch of the Portage County District Library will have a two-part class on how to write a resume and cover letter from 1 to 3 p.m. April 29 and May 1. Participants should bring with them a USB drive to save the resume and cover letter they create.
