Suspect Sought in Granite Bay Bank Robbery

Placer County sheriff's detectives are asking the public's help in identifying the suspect who robbed a Granite Bay bank on the morning of September 12, 2014 . The man entered the River City Bank on Cavitt Stallman Road and passed a note to a teller that stated he had a gun and that he wanted money.

Multiple Suspects Arrested at Same Address

Sheriff's deputies visiting a residence in the Lake of the Pines area to serve arrest warrants on two subjects ended up taking a number of other people to jail. Tuesday night, officers arrived at a Rosewood Rd address to find a number of people other than the woman they were serving warrants.

Firm tasked to perform Olympic Valley finance study backs out

Earlier this week, Citygate Associates informed the Placer County Local Agency Formation Commission it wouldn't perform an analysis into the financial feasibility of the proposed town of Olympic Valley. When asked why, Kristina Berry, executive officer of Placer County LAFCO office, said the reason is unclear, although a perceived potential conflict of interest discussed at LAFCO's Aug. 13 meeting was not a factor.

Placer County's $798 Million Budget Gets Supervisors Approval

The Placer County Board of Supervisors today approved the county's final 2014-15 budget, giving the OK to the $798 million spending plan. The plan for fiscal year 2014-15 shows a 10.7 percent increase over the previous year, primarily related to increases in capital and infrastructure spending.

More NorCal parents choosing not to vaccinate children

More and more parents in California are not getting their kids the full range of shots before they start school, which is causing some health officials to be worried that the lack of vaccinations could lead to more serious illnesses and even death. Before children enter kindergarten, they are required by California state law to have a dozen different vaccines, including those for measles and mumps, polio and dyptheria.

Water Rate Hikes Looming in Roseville and Rocklin

The Placer County Water Agency is reminding treated and untreated water users that water rates in PCWA Zone 1 will increase by approximately 6 percent, effective Jan. 1, 2015. "Of the 6 percent adjustment, 3.7 percent is due to the PG&E increase in purchased water and 2.3 percent of the adjustment is based upon the Consumer Price Index."

Placer County residents are doing their part when it comes to conserving water during the current drought and helping to ensure best possible conditions if the drought continues into 2015. This was a message delivered by Tony Firenzi, drought project manager for the Placer County Water Agency, at Thursday's meeting of the PCWA Board of Directors.

Like most of you, I am not a property owner in Olympic Valley. Nor am I am a business owner or stakeholder in the valley, but I do own multiple businesses in Carnelian Bay and worry about the basin's future.

Trail connecting Truckee to Tahoe breaks ground next week

After years of planning and study, construction of a multi-use trail described as one of the region's most anticipated recreation projects is about to begin. Work starts next week on a 0.57-mile portion of the Martis Valley Trail, with completion expected in mid-October, said Mike Staudenmayer, general manager of the Northstar Community Services District.
