....we need a flood control plan like we need another cityhood study, another airport, or a prison.....oh wait......we're getting all of those.....more money wasted.....oh well....
According to the County Manager they needed to approve it (no money to be spent) so they could do this "In another major item, the county manager requested commissioners consider applying for a $100 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Grant (TIGER)."
.....Grants always come with "strings" and for a specific time period. Afterwhich the County is required to pick up the cost. This County needs no more cost.
There is no cost here.
The problem lies with the Town Manager and his little "support group" who gather signatures and cry about Pahrump not having "Family Friendly Dining" and "More parks for the Chillllllldrennnn"
THEY are the ones pushing Pahrump to build build build all the while we are running out of water. Sorry.. but if your kids are bored, Pahrump might not be the place for you to live.. lol |
What's that got to do with flood control ? it's been flooding way before the a_whole became manager. They need to do something just not a 300+million dollar plan. |
What it has to do with the flood plan is this. The town manager was the one who OKed this study and pushed it through. We do NOT need the plan, but he is hell bent on spending this cash so he can prove that areas are safe to build on. Once the OK comes in, here comes the mini malls, crime, trouble, and tons of other issues as well as water shortages.

I wonder how long those who destroy Pahrump will stick around......when it's all said and done? As I understand it the town manager still has his roots in Ohio. Look how fast EX-Commissioner Peter L got out when he started feeling the heat! All his plans fizzled, like a fizzy in water lol.

Peter left Nevada but may be back. Behind bars.
He left because of the lawsuit and his grand money schemes didn't pan out. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Kohbarger may have roots in Ohio but he has been in Nevada for a while, he can leave any time IF he takes 3/5 of the Town Board with him. |
Pete still has a radio show on 720 am vegas radio sat at 6am. Heard it once or twice. When is he scheduled for sentencing?
Aug. 28, 2009 Liakopoulos, Neth sentencing dates are slated By MARK WAITE PVT The sentencing of former Nye County Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos, originally scheduled last Monday, has been continued until 9 a.m., Oct. 19, in 5th District Court. Liakopoulos was convicted by a jury July 1 of asking or receiving a bribe, offering a reward for an appointment and grafting by a public officer. The charges stem from an offer by Liakopoulos to former Pahrump town board member Laurayne Murray to vote for the county half-cent sales tax increase in December 2007 if the Pahrump Town Board would vote to appoint his wife as curator of a veterans memorial. The request for a continuance, filed by public defender Tom Gibson Aug. 3, stated, "Defendant requests the present motion to assist the state of Oregon to have his probation transferred." Liakopoulos' lists a current address in Florence, Ore. He resigned as a Nye County commissioner effective Dec. 31, 2008, after only two years in office. |

Re. this regional flood control plan, I'd bet my last dollar that when many of the roads here were graded and chip-sealed, the elevations of the roads were heightened by as much as 12" in relationship to their adjoined properties. This in itself affects many flood control patterns. In areas where flood plains WERE gravel roads, NOW much may be changed due to elevated streets being walls of thousands of "mini" retention pools. We may have inadvertently improved a majority of our flood control issues recently by chip-sealing the majority of roads.
They chip sealed our road about 2 months ago. Where the water used to run down the gravel road the "mini retention" area is now my front yard as the new chip sealed road is much higher than the original. Great flood control.

..Mine too. I surely wouldn't choose to spend any more money on another pork project though.
I agree, there is interest from the Army Corp of Engineers to do some work up by the winery, where it nedes it. We should just agree and let them do what they want, it IS our money but better here than some other town or state. They have money and they WILL spend it somewhere sometime. |
