It would cost $11 billion to fix the nearly 6,000 state bridges in need of repair, a daunting financial hurdle that threatens to get worse with rising construction costs, potential losses of federal aid and increasingly aging spans, a key state official said Friday.

In Bucks County alone, one in three bridges are structurally deficient -- a slice of a statewide problem that requires massive investment to address, said James Ritzman, deputy secretary of planning for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Read more

I'm sure our lawmakers will have no trouble coming up with the funds for these infrastructure repairs if we tell them that there are lots of gifts and subsidized travel in it for them - oink oink oink

Maybe China or Saudi Arabia will loan them the money. When they take over this country it will be nice not to have to fix the bridges for their military to use.

Our gas tax money was diverted to mass transit in philly and pittsburgh to keep the increase in travelling prices down so that it would guarantee a win for fat eddie.

Ask all the pay grabbing politicians to contribute to the new "bridge" fund. Aw, heck, why ask? Just take it back. They had NO problem taking it in the first place. D*mn crooks.

Perhaps if PENNDOT workers actually worked for a change the bridges might not be in such horrible shape! They make easily 30 plus an hour to sit in the back of the truck or stare at the hole in the ground. Just think how much work could get done! No accountability in this state or counry! FRY MUMIA!

If Bush can submit a request for $70 billion to continue this "war", then $11 billion can be used to make bridge repairs throughout the state wherever repairs are needed.

I could be wrong (and I hope I am) but I was told about 5 years ago, that the sign holders on highway construction crews were making over $100.00/hr.
