From birth to grave he was a paradox with a pair of six-shooters, this son of a Methodist minister who was born a dozen miles southwest of Bonham in the back room of his father's church on May 26 and went to meet his maker after taking a bullet in the back of his head in an El Paso saloon in 1895.
