The National Weather Service in Shreveport is warning residents and motorists along the Sulphur River of flooding concerns.

At 8.2 percent, Texas' unemployment rate is the highest in 22 years. But that sounds enviable in Morris County, an isolated industrial island in the northeast corner of the state where the jobless rate has reached 15.6 percent, even higher than in Michigan.

A high-speed chase through Camp, Titus and Morris Counties Wednesday ended in the arrest of a suspect in the armed robbery of a Gilmer finance company, authorities said.

One needs to travel the industrial road out of Lone Star toward Hughes Springs to see the effect the idling of the U.S. Steel plant in that small town north of here has had on the area.
