Four prisoners charged in jail beating incidents

Four inmates have been charged in two separate jail beatings in Mercer County. Bradford Spencer, 41, and Shannon Comer, 35, were charged last week with unlawful wounding and conspiracy after reportedly beating James Irvin at a Mercer County holding facility, according to Chief Deputy Darrell Bailey of the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.

Drug test delays sentencing for former football player

The sentencing hearing for a former Concord University football player who pleaded guilty in May to a conspiracy charge stemming from an off-campus incident in Athens was continued Monday after the defendant tested positive for marijuana, according to the assistant prosecutor who is working the case.
