Homes and cabins make up a third of the nearly 100 structures destroyed by a wildfire burning across more than 30 square miles of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, officials said Monday.

This will continue to be strictly enforced. Efforts by MNR FireRanger crews, British Columbia crews, heavy equipment, air attack and some precipitation relief has allowed for fire suppression progress.

Rain lent a hand Sunday, May 27th to the 230 crew members battling a wildfire that has consumed 31.6 square miles of forest in the eastern part of Michigan's sparsely populated Upper Peninsula.

Gov. Rick Snyder today declared a state of disaster in the Upper Peninsula counties of Luce and Schoolcraft to make available all state resources to protect public health and safety in ongoing efforts to fight the wildfires already engulfing more than 20,000 acres.

Diplomats say the U.N. nuclear agency has found traces of uranium at Iran's underground atomic site enriched to higher than previous levels and closer to what is needed for nuclear weapons.
