Local teens train to work polls for Election Day

NEW CASTLE / LAWRENCE COUNTY-- Local elections officials are predicting a record turnout for the April 22Pennsylvania primary election now just a little more than a week away. Here in Lawrence County officials are predicting a 60% turnout in Mercer County the elections director says he expects a 50% turnout. In both counties, they expect the polls to be busier than ever with hundreds of newly registered voters. Poll workers will have some help on Election Day with high school students recruited to serve as poll rovers. But before these teens head to the polls to lend a hand, they undergo some Election Day training. The County Line's Aimee Gerber takes us to New Castle to see what goes on for these young people before they report for duty at an election poll near you. Obama campaign opens New Castle office

NEW CASTLE / LAWRENCE COUNTY-- So far neither Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama have made campaign stops in Lawrence or Mercer counties as the campaign for Pennsylvania's April 22 primary criss-crosses the Keystone State. Lawrence County Election Marlene Gabriel tells Titan Radio News she thinks a candidate who visits here could easily win over county Democrats. She says when Bill Clinton was running for president in the 1990s he campaign here and won Lawrence County in that election. While both Clinton and Obama have made repeated stops in nearby Beaver and Allegheny counties, the closest the campaign trail has come to our area is a new office in New Castle opened for the Obama Campaign. Reporter Alex Hines attended the opening event at that office where he found local volunteers passionate about their candidate. You can click our YouTube link to watch it.
