Charges filed after logging truck overturns

According to Trooper Sean Spring of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Joseph Pompey, 55, left a lumber site on Mattocks Road near the Onslow-Jones County line in a truck carrying logs when the truck fell into a ditch at approximately 11:50 a.m. The truck turned over and the logs spilled onto the road.

Jacksonville man sought in hit-and-run

According to Jones County Emergency Services, a call came in at 5:45 a.m. Sunday regarding a traffic wreck on U.S. 17. Carlton Levon Jenkins, 23, was driving a 2011 Nissan Sentra near 8541 U.S. 17 in Pollocksville at approximately 30 mph over the speed limit when he hit a Chevy Tahoe, a ccording to reports .

Organizations join opposition of Hofmann Forest sale

Audubon North Carolina recently expressed its concerns in a letter to N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper and the steering committee of the North Carolina chapter of the Sierra Club adopted a resolution opposing the sale of the property to a private party as is planned.

New Bern man charged with March 31 bank robbery

A 28-year-old New Bern man was arrested by New Bern Police Monday for the March 31 robbery of First Citizens Bank at 305 Broad St. Clarence Daniel Martin IV, of North Craven St., faces a felony charge of common law robbery for the incident that occurred around 1:30 p.m. in which a man robbed the bank across from the Craven County Courthouse.
