Council approves funding for Iowa City Police to use body cameras

The Iowa City Council voted unanimously to approve funding for Iowa City Police officers to get 84 body-mounted cameras, during Tuesday's regular council meeting. The issue was addressed after a video surfaced online showing Iowa City Police breaking up a house party, but it's since gotten a lot of attention and criticism saying the actions of officers were wrong.

Domestic abuse charge against school board member to be dropped

On Monday, the Johnson County Attorney's Office filed a motion to dismiss in their case against 36-year-old Tuyet Dorau, of Coralville, who was arrested Sept. 6 for domestic abuse.

IC Woman Charged with Keeping Drugs Near Child Lang 9-15-14 Allegedly keeping an assortment of drugs near her minor child has lead to an Iowa City woman's arrest. Iowa City Police and the Johnson County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on the Amber Lane residence of 40-year-old Tracy Lynn Mennenga just before 2pm on June 17th.

Free CPR courses offered in Johnson County

Johnson County emergency responders are offering free classes on CRP, AED, and chocking maneuver this Saturday. The Johnson County EMS Association along with the Johnson County Ambulance Service will host free 30 minute hands-only courses starting at 8 a.m. The classes will be held at the Johnson County Health and Human Services Building on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 855 S. Dubuque Street, Iowa City, and will be held on a first come, first serve basis.

Federal officials review Iowa City sidewalk ramps

Iowa City is being scrutinized by federal investigators who are trying to determine whether the city has violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Iowa City Press Citizen reports that the Johnson County Task Force on Aging complained to the U.S. Justice Department earlier this year about the sidewalks and curb ramps throughout the city.
